As a longtime Trek fan, I’m already getting excited about 2026! The Star Trek universe is gearing up for a big celebration – it’s the franchise’s 60th anniversary, and it feels like there’s so much on the horizon. We’re finally getting Season 4 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds later this year, and the new game, Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown, looks promising. Honestly, after a bit of a wait, it feels like Star Trek is truly back with a ton of fresh content.
The first two episodes of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will be available on Paramount+ starting January 15th. This new series, the twelfth installment in the Star Trek franchise and created by Gaia Violo with Alex Kurtzman overseeing the expanded Star Trek Universe, offers a fresh perspective. Instead of following a starship crew, it focuses on a new group of Starfleet cadets – the first in over a hundred years. The series explores their journey to becoming officers, along with the challenges of new friendships, intense rivalries, and first loves, all while facing a dangerous new enemy.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Is a Successful and Ambitious Addition to the Franchise

With just a few days until its premiere, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is shaping up to be a standout addition to the Star Trek universe. Currently, the show boasts an impressive 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the highest-rated Star Trek TV series ever – even surpassing Star Trek: Prodigy and the original series. However, it’s still too soon to know what viewers will think, as an audience score isn’t yet available.
The new series is being praised for creating a unique and optimistic story that appeals to a younger audience. It successfully combines the hopeful spirit of classic Star Trek with the style of modern young adult fiction. However, most critics believe it’s too soon to tell if Starfleet Academy will continue to be as strong as it started. ComicBook gave it a 3.5 out of 5, playfully calling it “Star Trek: Hogwarts.” They noted that while the show works well as both a young adult “magical school” story and a recognizable Star Trek series, it hasn’t quite reached greatness yet. Zaki Hasan of the San Francisco Chronicle wrote that Star Trek’s enduring appeal lies in its message of patiently building hope, and while this series is showing promise in that regard, it remains to be seen if it will live up to the franchise’s legacy.
Will There Be a Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 2?

Good news for Star Trek fans! The show Starfleet Academy has already been renewed for a second season, so you don’t have to worry about it ending after just one. The renewal was confirmed back in October 2024, and filming for Season 2 started in August 2025, meaning fans likely won’t have to wait long for new episodes after the first season finishes.
The first season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy begins January 15th on Paramount+ with two episodes. After that, new episodes will be released every Thursday at 3 a.m. Eastern Time, with the season concluding on March 12th.
