When Eli and Peyton Manning team up to discuss football, you can always expect something entertaining. Their popular ManningCast – a more relaxed, live broadcast of certain Monday Night Football games – was going strong as the NFL playoffs began on TV last weekend. To mark the occasion, Eli gave his brother a surprisingly harsh gift.
It might not be a traditional gift, but it was nicely presented. The former New York Giant gave Peyton Manning a framed collage of every player who intercepted him during his first season as quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts. You can see Manning’s reaction here:
I mean, do you even have a brother if he’s not pulling stunts like this?

Peyton Manning is widely considered one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, earning his place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021 after an 18-year career that included two Super Bowl victories. But back in 1998, his future success wasn’t guaranteed.
Peyton Manning was the first player chosen in the 1998 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts, but his first season wasn’t easy. He threw 28 interceptions, setting a record that still hasn’t been broken.
Peyton laughed and smiled at the large collage, and Eli Manning told him he appreciated having him as a co-host. Eli then playfully continued, saying:
I imagine you’ll probably want to display it in your bedroom, somewhere you’ll enjoy seeing it often.
Eli Manning has always been a supportive brother, and Peyton seemed genuinely happy to see so many familiar people. Peyton even pointed out that one defensive player had managed to sack him twice – thanks to Eli helpfully marking the player’s name with an ‘x2’! Remembering that season, the former Bronco was amazed by the whole experience, saying:
It’s the gift that keeps on giving.
As a Giants fan, I always remember how impressive Eli Manning was right from the start. He was the first pick in ’04, and unbelievably, only threw 9 interceptions his whole rookie year! That probably gave him the confidence to playfully tease his brother, Peyton, a bit – you know, a little sibling rivalry!
It’s not a fair comparison, though. Eli Manning only played in 7 games that season, while Peyton Manning played in all 16. While Peyton threw more interceptions, he also passed for a lot more yards and had 26 touchdowns – a record for rookie quarterbacks at the time – compared to Eli’s 6.
Peyton, with his typical dry wit, joked about where he’d find room for the keepsake Eli Manning sent him.
Yeah, I got a perfect spot for that.
The popularity of the ManningCast is clear in moments like these. Even if you weren’t following the Texans-Steelers game, it was hard not to enjoy the funny and engaging conversation between the former quarterbacks. Fans will be hoping for many more entertaining broadcasts next season.
