The Marvel Cinematic Universe is heading for another shift in power. Marvel Studios has several major new and returning projects planned for 2026, including the introduction of some incredibly powerful heroes and villains. As usual, Marvel is keeping details tightly under wraps, but with so many characters potentially involved, it’s starting to raise questions about how everything will fit together.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m really excited about the Wonder Man series coming to Disney+ in early 2026! It’s going to introduce us to Simon Williams, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who seems like a normal actor but is actually hiding some incredible powers. What’s really got people talking is the idea that his abilities might be linked to a surprisingly dark source – a place he definitely shouldn’t be getting his powers from, according to some theories. It sounds like Simon could end up being a seriously powerful player in the MCU!
Stream #WonderMan, an 8-episode series, coming January 27 at 6PM PT only on @DisneyPlus.

A recent TV spot and photo for the upcoming Wonder Man show reveal an interesting detail. The photo shows a script page with Simon Williams’ acting notes. In a monologue, his character says, “Well, I’ve been to hell. I’ve lived in that screaming silence.” However, Simon changed “hell” to “The Void” in his notes. The teaser shows Simon performing the monologue, incorporating all of his notes. We can hear how he emphasizes “The Void” and see the emotion and deeper meaning he brings to the lines, particularly when he says, “I know what it’s like. I lost whatever was left of me that makes a person… a person.”
Is Wonder Man Connected to The Sentry’s Void?

The movie Thunderbolts introduced us to Bob Reynolds, a young man with a difficult past who mysteriously became the only person to survive a government experiment designed to create a super soldier. Valentina, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, transformed Bob into “The Sentry,” a powerful public hero comparable to Superman. However, Bob secretly struggled with mental illness, which manifested as a separate, conscious entity called “The Void.” The Void attacked New York City, kidnapping numerous people – including the Thunderbolts – and imprisoning them within personalized, terrifying recreations of their worst memories. Though the Thunderbolts eventually helped Bob confront his inner struggles, the Void’s impact was substantial.
Simon Williams’ speech strongly suggests he’s suffered deep emotional, and possibly physical, trauma – it’s possible this is exactly what the show is implying. In the comics, his superpowers come from a unique energy source called “iocnic energy” that fundamentally changed him. While the comics attribute these experiments to A.I.M., the Marvel Cinematic Universe could easily tie them to the creation of Sentry, or simply explain that Simon gained his powers by being caught in The Void’s attack and absorbing its strange energies.
It would be a fascinating twist for the Marvel Cinematic Universe if Wonder Man became as powerful as Sentry or the Void, and trailers suggest this transformation could be deeply emotional. Establishing this backstory also creates opportunities to introduce other characters affected by the Void, like Cloak and Dagger, into the MCU.
Look, I’ve been watching Marvel for a long time, and I’ve learned to take everything with a grain of salt. They’re masters at throwing out little hints – names, references – that send the fanbase into overdrive with theories. More often than not, though, it turns out to be a clever distraction, a way to get people talking and generate buzz. So, when Simon Williams mentioned the void, I’m not immediately jumping to conclusions about a connection to a certain someone. It could be a huge deal, a real turning point, but it might just be a dramatic flourish. Only time will tell, honestly.
Wonder Man will release all 8 of its episodes on January 27th, only on Disney+.
