Marvel Fans Are Convinced Avengers: Doomsday’s New Trailer Secretly Edited Out Multiple Characters

Promotion for the new Avengers: Doomsday movie has begun. Over the last month, Marvel has been releasing short previews, each focusing on different characters or teams from the film. Because the movie’s plot is still largely a secret, fans have been closely examining these previews for any clues about the story. The footage has revealed exciting details, like the return of Captain America, a meeting between the Wakandans and the Fantastic Four, and much more. Some fans even think Marvel might be subtly changing the previews to mislead them.

Fans on social media have noticed strange empty spaces in the new Black Panther/Fantastic Four trailer, leading to speculation that Marvel edited the footage to hide spoilers. Some believe characters like Doctor Doom or the Fantastic Four’s ship were digitally removed. One X user, @ProjectHurts, pointed to details like Shuri’s head angle and blurry backgrounds as evidence of these edits.

Did Marvel Digitally Edit the Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Footage?

It might sound a little far-fetched, but there’s reason to believe Marvel has been editing footage in its trailers. They’ve done this before – some fans remember how trailers for Spider-Man: No Way Home removed Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield from certain scenes to keep their return a secret. A shot in the Avengers: Infinity War trailer shows Hulk charging with the team, and with the release of Doomsday still a ways off, Marvel likely isn’t ready to reveal everything. So, it wouldn’t be shocking if they’ve made some changes to the trailer footage to keep certain surprises hidden for now.

The newest trailer for Doomsday shows Wakandans meeting the Fantastic Four, but it’s unclear how or why they came together. Some fans speculate the Fantastic Four’s ship might have crashed while traveling between dimensions, prompting Wakanda to investigate. Marvel may be keeping the ship’s condition a secret to avoid revealing too much of the plot. Another popular idea is that Doctor Doom was originally in a scene with Ben Grimm but has been removed from the trailer. He hasn’t appeared in any of the Doomsday previews yet, and Marvel likely wants to save his official reveal for a more impactful moment. If Doom is indeed in that hidden shot, removing him would make sense, as the trailers have focused on showcasing the heroes and their challenges.

It’s also possible the way these scenes are filmed is simply a stylistic choice, and Marvel isn’t trying to conceal anything. Leaving some empty space in a medium shot is perfectly acceptable visually. Not every shot needs to be a close-up—those are most effective for intense, emotional scenes where focusing on a character’s feelings is key. Medium shots work well for conversations and scenes where characters are interacting, offering a balance between showing actors’ performances and allowing the scene to breathe.

It remains to be seen if the scene we saw in the trailer will actually make it into the final version of Doomsday. Trailers often include footage that doesn’t end up in the finished movie, as their main goal is to generate excitement. With the latest Doomsday trailer, Marvel seems to be letting audiences know that Wakandans and the Fantastic Four will appear together in the film. It’s possible the funny exchange between M’Baku and Ben was created just for the trailer, and their conversation will be different in the movie. Regardless, fans will undoubtedly keep guessing about what Doomsday will bring.
