Netflix has been investing a lot in animated shows lately, and it’s paying off. They’ve created some fantastic original animated series like Castlevania, BoJack Horseman, Arcane, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which have really set them apart. In 2023, Blue Eye Samurai was a huge hit – a visually striking and action-packed revenge story told with impressive computer animation. Although a second season is planned, fans might have to wait a bit longer than anticipated to see what happens next with Mizu’s journey.
According to What’s on Netflix, fans will have to wait until 2027 for the second season of Blue Eye Samurai. While no exact release date has been announced, the show is expected to return four years after its initial release. The creators have previously hinted at the possibility of multiple seasons and even spin-offs to build upon the show’s world. Given the stunning animation quality, it’s understandable that the studio needs ample time to develop the next chapter.
The Status of Blue Eye Samurai’s Comeback
It’s a bit surprising, but even though the second season of Blue Eye Samurai isn’t expected until next year, production is already well underway. Levels Audio, the studio handling voice recording for Mizu and the rest of the cast, announced they’ve already begun recording. While Levels Audio might not be a household name like Netflix, they’ve contributed to popular shows such as Shark Tank, American Idol, and Yellowjackets.
Following the Emmy nominations for Blue Eye Samurai, egmr.ru spoke with executive producers Michael Green and Amber Noizumi about season two. Noizumi confirmed that production is in progress and the new season will venture into new areas. She shared her enthusiasm, saying the team is doing fantastic work, pushing boundaries and building on their successes while also trying some innovative and ambitious ideas.
Something really struck me during my conversation with Green – how much the team appreciated people comparing their show, Blue Eye Samurai, to anime. They’re big fans themselves, and while they knew their work wasn’t technically anime, they hoped anime fans would still connect with it – see it as something similar, like a relative. Green said it’s been amazing to see that happen, noting the incredible passion of anime fans – he even compared their dedication to that of the most devoted sports fans!
