Two DC Favorites Are Getting New Solo Series

Being a DC Comics fan is great right now! As the universe’s heroes fight Darkseid, DC is also planning for the future. They recently announced DC Next Level, a new wave of comics following the ‘DC All In’ era. This initiative promises fresh takes on existing series and exciting new stories featuring characters who deserve more attention.

Following the successful launch of titles like Batwoman, Deathstroke: The Terminator, and Lobo, DC Comics announced two new series coming in April. Zatanna, illustrated by Jamal Campbell, and The Fury of Firestorm, by Jeff Lemire and Rafael De Latorre, will both debut next month. DC also revealed cover art for the series and offered a sneak peek at storylines for the Nuclear Man and Zatanna, DC’s leading magic user.

DC Next Level Grows with New Zatanna and Firestorm Ongoing Series

Jamal Campbell’s new Zatanna comic continues the story from his miniseries last year. Zatanna has become the Prime Magnus, meaning she’s now in charge of all magic within the DC Universe. This gives her a huge amount of responsibility, and she’ll have to uncover hidden secrets from the past as she takes on the role. But Zatanna remains her usual confident, performing self – a powerful and skilled magician. Zatanna #1 will be available on April 29th.

Jeff Lemire and Rafael De Latorre are taking a darker, more unusual approach with The Fury of Firestorm. The story unfolds in Bedford, Colorado, a quiet town that’s quickly disrupted by the arrival of the Nuclear Man. Through his elemental powers, Ronnie Raymond begins to drastically alter Bedford and its residents. There’s something strange happening with Firestorm, and it could spell trouble for anyone who gets in his way. It’s a mystery, but it’s definitely intriguing. The Fury of Firestorm #1 will be available on April 1st.

DC Next Level is Exactly What DC Comics Needs to Follow All In

What was great about DC All In was its focus on core characters and moving them forward in interesting ways. While some lesser-known heroes got their own stories, the real push was for DC’s main stars, and that was perfectly okay. DC All In successfully gave fans new entry points to follow those bigger characters. Now, the focus shifts to showcasing what makes DC’s other heroes special.

Now’s a great moment for DC to highlight Zatanna and Firestorm. Readers really enjoyed the Zatanna miniseries last year, praising both the strong character work and beautiful artwork – it’s fantastic when a creator shines in multiple areas! Plus, Firestorm has been ripe for a good series since a promising storyline from ‘Lazarus Planet’ was left unresolved. While we don’t know if the new series will pick that up, it’s exciting to see DC giving attention to characters who deserve it.

Based on the recent announcements, DC Comics has exciting plans for DC Next Level. More importantly, they’re finally delivering what fans have wanted for years: a wider range of diverse stories and a chance for lesser-known heroes to take center stage. Now that this is happening, let’s support characters like Zatanna and Firestorm by checking out their new comics and showing DC how much we appreciate this change.
