Netflix’s One Piece Live-Action Makes a Controversial Nico Robin Change

Be warned: this article reveals plot details from the One Piece manga! Following the success of the One Piece live-action series on Netflix in 2023, a second season will premiere on March 10, 2026. Season 2, titled One Piece: Into the Grand Line, will follow the Straw Hat Pirates as they begin their journey into the dangerous Grand Line – a place often called the pirates’ graveyard. The eight episodes of Season 2 will cover the Loguetown, Reverse Mountain (Twin Cape), Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island story arcs, setting the stage for the Alabasta arc, which will be featured in Season 3.

With Season 2 just around the corner, a new trailer has been released spotlighting Nico Robin, a fan-favorite character. While those new to the live-action series are still discovering her, manga and anime fans have loved Robin for years because of her important role, compelling backstory, and everything she’s accomplished. The trailer offers a fresh look at her appearance, confirming a significant change from the original manga that many viewers immediately noticed.

Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 Dropped a Major Hint About Robin’s Name

In the trailer, Robin’s armband features the letter ‘N,’ representing her name. However, in the original manga, the armband actually says ‘BW,’ which stands for Baroque Works – the organization led by Crocodile that Robin works for. Although fans know her true name, the manga shows Robin spent twenty years concealing her identity to stay safe. This is because her ability to decipher ancient texts made her a target of the World Government, who destroyed her home island and have been pursuing her ever since.

I remember seeing her face everywhere – plastered on wanted posters all over the world, even when she was just a little girl. There was a huge reward offered for her capture, which meant she was constantly on the run, struggling to survive. Eventually, she ended up working for a group called Baroque Works, becoming the most trusted right-hand person to their leader, Crocodile. She first appeared to everyone as ‘Miss All Sunday,’ and it took a long time before anyone knew her true name.

Robin’s past wasn’t fully explained until much later in the story, several arcs after the events in Alabasta. Given how much she feared being captured by the World Government, it seems odd she’d wear something with her initials on it, even if it wasn’t a clear sign of who she really was.
