Even though Avengers: Doomsday promises a lot of great characters and some familiar faces returning, I’m especially looking forward to seeing one particular MCU hero back in action. They weren’t featured in any of the four trailers for Doomsday, but recent news has me really hopeful!
Although Shang-Chi made a strong first impression in his 2021 film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Simu Liu’s character hasn’t appeared much in the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe since then. While a sequel to his film is still being planned, Liu recently shared some exciting news about Shang-Chi potentially appearing in Avengers: Doomsday.
Simu Liu Has Teased Exciting Growth For Shang-Chi Since 2021
Simu Liu recently told ComicBook.com that his character, Shang-Chi, will be more mature and self-assured in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film, showing how much he’s grown since first appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
He and I are both older now, which is nice. It allows us to play the character with more confidence, especially since Shang was so out of his element before. The story jumps forward in time, so we’ll see him as someone who’s settled into himself and is comfortable with his life and duties.
It’s great to hear these new updates about Shang-Chi, especially since we haven’t seen much of him since his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The news is particularly welcome after he wasn’t featured in any of the trailers for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
Avengers: Doomsday Should Be Shang-Chi’s Time To Shine
The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday seems like a great chance for Shang-Chi to have a more prominent role, which he’s earned. While he’s made some fun animated cameos in Marvel’s What If…? and Marvel Zombies, he hasn’t been seen in a live-action movie within the main Marvel universe since 2021 – a longer absence than you might expect for such a well-liked hero from Phase Four.
Given this, it seems Liu’s statements indicate that Shang-Chi will be a significant character in the upcoming fifth Avengers film. After waiting nearly five years for a follow-up to his first appearance, Marvel should definitely give him a substantial role.
