Kathleen Kennedy talked about what might happen with a sequel to Star Wars: Starfighter, explaining how the original movie’s story came about. She shared insights into the film’s development and its potential future.
Kathleen Kennedy discusses if Star Wars: Starfighter will get sequels
Lucasfilm originally intended ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ to be a one-time film, according to Kathleen Kennedy in a recent interview with Deadline. While acknowledging a good experience working with director Shawn Levy and a strong debut performance from young actor Flynn Gray, Kennedy clarified that although sequels are possible, they aren’t currently planned.
Kennedy felt the casting for the film was excellent, particularly how well Gray collaborated with the various actors, including Ryan Gosling, Matt Smith, Amy Adams, and Aaron Pierre. She noted he was always enthusiastic about working with them. While there aren’t any sequel plans right now, Kennedy believes the actor has a bright future and wouldn’t be surprised if they explored more stories with him later on.
Kennedy appreciated the freedom of making a standalone film instead of a franchise installment. As she put it, they could simply focus on creating a movie and telling a story. She shared this shortly after wrapping up filming on Star Wars: Starfighter in London.
Kathleen Kennedy is leaving her executive position at Lucasfilm, but she’s still involved in finishing touches on the upcoming Mandalorian movie, directed by Jon Favreau, which is set to be released in May. She confirmed that filming wrapped in November and that she’s currently supervising the visual effects.
Dave Filoni, promoted to Chief Creative Officer, and Lynwen Brennan, Executive Vice President, are now leading Lucasfilm. Kathleen Kennedy spent the last two years preparing for this change and is returning to focus on producing. She’ll continue to be involved with Star Wars projects, but the extent of her involvement will depend on the plans made by Filoni and Brennan.
