Hytale’s Early Access version is now available, and a key feature is the ability to catch a wide variety of animals.
Since the game is still new, this feature isn’t fully developed yet. However, you can build a tool to easily catch all small animals, which is really helpful for moving them and keeping them in enclosures!
Read on and we’ll tell you everything you need to catch ‘em all.
How Capturing Animals Works in Hytale

Right now, in the early version of the game, the only way to catch wild animals is with the Capture Crate. You can craft this crate once you’ve upgraded your Farmer’s Workbench to Tier 2.
To craft the Capture Crate itself, you’ll need the following:
- Any Tree Trunk x2 – Obtained by chopping down any type of tree.
- Copper Ingot x1 – Smelt Copper found in caves at the Furnace. Check out our ore locations guide for help finding Copper.
After you make a Capture Crate, you can use it just like any other tool in the game. Simply equip it and use it on a small animal – like a Piglet or Rabbit – to catch it right away!
You’ll then find a Capture Crate containing an animal in your inventory—like the Capture Crate (Piglet) pictured above. You can equip and use this crate again to set the animal free wherever you’d like.
This tool is great for safely guiding smaller animals into enclosed spaces, like when building a farm. It’s much more dependable than trying to attract them, based on how the game works right now.
Just so you know, young animals like Piglets don’t grow into adults right now. They stay babies permanently. Also, the game doesn’t currently have a breeding system.
Now you’ve learned how to catch animals in Hytale! Keep in mind that this method currently only works on smaller creatures, as of the game’s Early Access release.
