The TV adaptation of “The Last of Us” has featured some unexpected guest stars and recurring faces across its episodes. In the first season of HBO’s series, not only did Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett appear as Bill and Frank, but fans also recognized Anna Torv as Tess, Storm Reid as Riley, Melanie Lynskey as Kathleen, and even game star Ashley Johnson as Anna, Ellie’s mother. So far, the second season of “The Last of Us” hasn’t had many surprise appearances, though Catherine O’Hara has been seen frequently as local therapist Gail, and Joe Pantoliano is set to debut as Eugene. The fourth episode of “The Last of Us” Season 2, however, opened with a particularly surprising cameo by a well-known actor whose past work differs significantly from their character in “The Last of Us.” [Spoiler alert!]
In the newest installment of “The Last of Us”, the narrative shifts to the year 2018 within the Seattle Quarantine Zone, a decade and a half after the outbreak and ten years prior to the series’ main timeline. The episode opens with a group of FEDRA soldiers chatting and relaxing inside an armored vehicle. Among them is a boisterous individual who seems to revel in his FEDRA authority, hinting at the emergence of the Seraphites in an intriguing manner. Initially, it’s not clear that this crude soldier with little regard for others is none other than the former Nickelodeon star, Josh Peck.
User exclaimed, ‘Hey Josh Peck, what’s going on here? Please take off that Fedra uniform!’ This was after they recognized Josh Peck as the star of the episode.
“Josh Peck jump scare to start the episode,” added another.
“We are SECONDS into new tlou why is Josh Peck here,” one user said critically.
In an unexpected twist, The Last of Us had a hidden surprise in store for the arrival of Josh Peck. In the scene, the FEDRA truck they were riding in came to a halt, and a group of unarmed civilians approached, creating a potentially hostile situation. Jeffrey Wright’s character, Isaac, stepped out of the truck to speak with them, but it was soon revealed that this encounter was orchestrated by Isaac as he was joining the WLF and abandoning FEDRA. As a final act of rebellion against FEDRA, Isaac discarded a few grenades from his belt and hurled them back into the truck, sealing its fate and taking the lives of everyone inside, including Josh Peck.
One user commented that Josh Peck isn’t suitable for good TV shows due to his appearance. They joked, ‘They had to eliminate him to maintain balance.’
It’s uncertain whether Drew Peck’s appearance in the episode was based on his popularity from starring in hit Nickelodeon shows like The Amanda Show and Drake & Josh, or if the filmmakers intentionally cast him as a villain to surprise viewers. Alternatively, it might simply be an instance of a talented actor being hired for a role without considering their past work, which is common in the industry. However, Peck’s brief appearance in The Last of Us certainly added an unexpected twist that fans didn’t anticipate.
New episodes of The Last of Us premiere Sundays at 9 PM on HBO and MAX
