Travis Kelce Fumbled This Reference in Taylor Swift’s Song “Wood”

Travis Kelce is scared for the fate of himself.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce revealed he didn’t get the reference to his and brother Jason Kelce’s podcast within his fiancée Taylor Swift’s song, “Wood.”

During the January 21st episode of their podcast, New Heights, Jason Kelce, 38, seemed puzzled by a fan’s idea for their merchandise. The suggestion came during the brothers’ “New News” segment.

The former Philadelphia Eagles center jokingly read a customer review that said, ‘I can’t believe none of the hoodies are called ‘New Heights of Man-Hoodie.’ He then admitted, ‘I have no idea what that means, but it sounds like the customer is upset.’

Jason, who has four daughters – Wyatt, 6, Elliotte, 4, Bennett, 2, and Finnley, 9 months – with his wife, Kylie Kelce, jokingly asked, “What does that even mean? Is a ‘man-hoodie’ a real thing?”

Okay, so even Travis, who proposed to Taylor back in August, totally missed the significance! Can you believe it? Luckily, Brandon Borders, one of the producers, had to explain it to her – connect it to her amazing 2025 song, you know? It was a crucial detail, and I was dying that even he didn’t get it at first!

Brandon explained, ‘It’s a reference to the song Life of a Showgirl, guys. The line ‘New Heights of manhood’ is when we got a shout-out on the album.’

The revelation left Taylor’s guy on the Chiefs momentarily speechless.

After a moment of thought, Travis, 36, jokingly admitted, “I have no idea what that is. Taylor is going to be so mad at me for not knowing!”

But for Jason, there was a simple reason they missed it.

He acknowledged that fans—especially those dedicated to Taylor Swift—are much better at finding hidden details and references than they are. Travis agreed, saying Swifties are experts at both creating and discovering these hidden clues.

Donna Kelce, Travis and Jason’s mom, definitely gets the Taylor Swift hype. She revealed that Taylor’s song “Vigilante St” got her energized while watching season four of The Traitors.

At the premiere, Donna Kelce playfully changed the famous quote “Don’t get sad, get even” to “Don’t get mad, get even.”

Even though she was eliminated in the third episode at age 73, her sons are incredibly proud of her energetic and determined attitude.

Travis said on the January 14th episode of New Heights that it was amazing to watch her pursue her dream and share a positive message about enjoying life and opportunities at her current stage. He added that seeing her fully present in the moment was really cool.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce first connected in July 2023 when Swift’s Eras Tour came to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

Being a big fan of Taylor Swift, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end wanted to give her a friendship bracelet with his jersey number on it while at her concert. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to deliver it because she was busy getting ready for the show.

Travis explained on his podcast, New Heights, that he was a little upset Taylor Swift didn’t speak before or after her concerts. He understood she needed to conserve her voice for the 44 songs she performs, but he wished he’d been able to give her one of the friendship bracelets he made.

After jokingly talking about dropping the football – something he’d later call incredibly cool – Travis decided to take a chance and invited the famous singer to come see the Chiefs play at their home stadium, Arrowhead.

He explained on The Pat McAfee Show that he challenged Taylor Swift, saying he’d noticed her performing at Arrowhead Stadium and suggested she come see him perform there too, to see who gets a better reaction from the crowd. He indicated something might happen soon.

Travis had grown a mustache, first showing it off in August during football training camp, and that’s how Taylor first met him.

Looking back, that time with the mustache and number 87 jersey was definitely a memorable look for me! It’s funny, because I was actually rocking that whole vibe when I first met Taylor. It’s a little piece of history, and a fun memory!

According to a source with inside knowledge, Travis and Taylor began communicating via text and phone calls around the beginning of September, as reported by TopMob News.

“It’s been very low-key,” the insider explained, “as he’s been in season.”

Taylor accepted Travis’ invitation and went to Arrowhead Stadium to watch him and the Kansas City Chiefs play against the Chicago Bears, where she sat with his mother, Donna Kelce. After the game, Taylor and Travis were photographed showing affection for each other at a nearby bar.

Despite stories claiming it was their first time meeting in person, the singer of “Karma” explained that they had actually spent considerable time getting to know each other before that.

As Taylor noted, “We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.” 

Okay, so things were definitely getting serious when Taylor brought her whole crew to see Travis play! I mean, it wasn’t just anyone – she had Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Sophie Turner, even Hugh Jackman! And Sabrina Carpenter and Antoni Porowski were there too! They all went to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to watch the Chiefs play the Jets. It was like, a full-on celebrity endorsement of this relationship, and honestly, I lost it when I saw the pictures. It was everything.

Taylor Swift seems to be getting close to Brittany Mahomes, wife of Travis Kelce’s best friend and teammate, Patrick Mahomes, both at and away from NFL games. This could be another indication that Taylor and Travis are a couple.

The couple publicly displayed their relationship with a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live on October 14th. They continued the celebration with the show’s after-party and a romantic dinner at the Waverly Inn.

During the team’s break, Travis flew to Argentina to see Taylor Swift perform as part of her Eras Tour. While there on November 11th in Buenos Aires, he connected with Taylor’s father, Scott Swift, and Taylor even gave him a special mention during the show.

“Karma is that guy on the Chiefs,” Taylor sang, “coming straight home to me.”

Okay, so after her incredible show, I spotted Taylor heading straight for Travis backstage! It was such a sweet moment – they greeted each other with a really passionate kiss. You could just feel the connection between them – so adorable!

Taylor addressed the lavender craze surrounding her appearances at Travis’ games.

She told Time magazine that being able to support him doing what he’s passionate about is important, and they’re comfortable with others knowing about their relationship. It’s the opposite of having to hide it and go to great lengths to keep it a secret.

 

The famous singer made Travis’ game on December 17th a family event, bringing her father along to support her boyfriend.

Taylor and Travis celebrated New Year’s Eve together and shared a kiss at midnight on January 1st.

Taylor continued getting to know Travis’s family, spending time with his brother Jason Kelce and sister-in-law Kylie at the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Buffalo Bills.

After the Chiefs won the AFC Championship and earned a place in the 2024 Super Bowl, Taylor joined Travis on the field to celebrate. They shared a kiss and told each other ‘I love you’.

“Tay, I’m gonna enjoy with the guys,” he told her. “I love you—so much it’s not funny.”

It was the most amazing, perfect moment ever, and I literally screamed. They went to the wedding of model Karen Elson and Lee Foster, who owns Electric Lady Studios, in New York City.

The next day, the pair attended the men’s singles final match at the U.S. Open.

The two stepped out for a double dinner date with Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds in NYC.

I was so excited to see that they had not one, but two dates in New York City right at the end of 2024! What really got me was that they coordinated their outfits both times – how adorable is that?

The couple spent the NFL off-season together, taking a snowy trip to Montana with sports reporter Erin Andrews.

In July 2025, Travis shared the first photos of him and Taylor on Instagram. One cute picture, taken during dinner, also showed that they both had photos of each other set as their phone lock screens.

Taylor Swift, a self-proclaimed big fan of the New Heights podcast, appeared on an almost two-hour-long special episode with Travis and Jason Kelce on August 13th. During the conversation, she openly shared details about her life with Travis, both publicly and privately, and announced the title of her upcoming twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, which will be released on October 3rd.

Over two years after Travis mentioned Taylor on his podcast – a moment that quickly spread online – the couple announced their engagement. In a playful nod to Taylor’s song “So High School,” they shared a photo on Instagram with the caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
