10 Best Anime to Watch At The Same Time As Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End

Season 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has arrived and is already receiving rave reviews and a lot of attention! New episodes will be released each week, following Frieren and her companions as they continue their adventure. Now that Fern has become a powerful mage, the group is heading north toward Aureole, the place where souls find rest. This season is currently scheduled for only 10 episodes, and there’s no news yet about a continuation.

Waiting each week for new episodes mid-season can be tough, particularly with a fantastic show like Frieren. Fortunately, there are many other great anime to enjoy while you wait. Some of these even share similar themes with Frieren, focusing on impactful adventures and the creation of strong relationships.

10) Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf

I recently watched the new adaptation of the 2008 anime, and it’s a fantastic take on Isuna Hasekura’s novel, beautifully illustrated by Juu Ayakura. The story centers around Kraft Lawrence, a merchant who travels to the village of Pasloe. The villagers tell tales of a long-ago promise made with Holo, the wolf deity, who was meant to ensure plentiful wheat harvests. But over time, the promise was forgotten, and Holo became more of a myth than a reality.

I watched as Kraft finished up his trading in the village and got ready to move on. That’s when he found her – a young girl, asleep amongst his furs, claiming to be the wolf from the local legends. She wanted to travel with him, and offered her knowledge and insight if he’d help her out.

9) Mushishi

While shows like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End are known for their exciting action and colorful animation, this series offers a more peaceful and thoughtful experience, focusing on the protagonist Ginko and his exploration of the world. It centers around ‘Mushi,’ which are simple life forms that simply exist, without any intentions or moral alignment. Unlike the purely evil demons in Frieren, Mushi sometimes unintentionally cause problems for humans, as a natural part of being alive.

Because so little is known about these mysterious creatures, Ginko travels throughout the country investigating any reports of them. He also assists those troubled by Mushi, all while learning more about their nature and behavior.

8) Secrets of the Silent Witch

I was really surprised to see that this fantastic anime from 2025, which everyone – critics and fans – loved, hasn’t gotten a second season announced yet. It’s set in this made-up kingdom called Ridill, where the people of Count Kerbeck’s land have been fighting dragons for ages. The main character, Monica Everett, is unique because she can use magic naturally, without needing to cast spells. She prefers a quiet life, but as a powerful mage, she feels obligated to help when another Sage asks for her assistance.

The Sage tasks her with safeguarding Prince Felix Arc Ridill, who is facing a serious threat. To protect him discreetly and avoid unwanted attention, she must overcome her social anxiety and enroll at Serendia Academy as a student.

7) Hell’s Paradise

Hell’s Paradise is a particularly gritty action series from Shonen Jump, centering around a group of characters sent to a strange island in search of a mythical treasure. The anime is currently airing its second season, which boasts even more impressive animation than the highly praised first season. The story follows Gabimaru, a formidable and merciless ninja from Iwagakure, who is offered a chance at freedom from death row – but the task he must complete seems nearly impossible.

Despite the danger, Gabimaru agrees to a chance at freedom when he thinks of his wife waiting for him. His mission is nearly impossible: he has to find the legendary Elixir of Life on a deadly island where no one survives. To make things even harder, he’ll be competing against other prisoners, all searching for the same elixir.

6) Natsume’s Book of Friends

This beautiful anime is set in a peaceful countryside with forests, ancient shrines, and winding roads. It’s not only visually calming, but also a heartwarming story about healing from the past and building new relationships. Though it features supernatural creatures called Yokai, it’s not scary. Instead, it offers touching stories about loss, thankfulness, and acceptance, leaving you with a gentle and hopeful feeling.

Takashi Natsume had a lonely childhood, constantly moving between foster homes where he never felt accepted. When he goes to live with the Fujiwara couple in the countryside, he meets a strong spirit named Madara. Madara reveals the existence of his grandmother’s Book of Friends, a mysterious object with a special power. Though he never knew his grandmother, Natsume begins to learn about her life and experiences through the spirits she interacted with.

5) Delicious in Dungeon

Ryoko Kui’s acclaimed manga, Delicious in Dungeon, is unique because it explores what life is like inside a dungeon, focusing on how to survive by cooking and eating monsters instead of just battling them. Although the stories are different, many viewers compare this anime to Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End because they share a similar heartwarming feel. From its detailed world to its beautiful animation and engaging characters, fans consistently praise everything about the series.

I’m completely hooked on this story! It follows Laios and his friends as they brave a dangerous dungeon to save his sister, Falin. She actually put herself on the line to get them all to safety! But things are tough – they’re running out of money for supplies, so they’ve basically decided to fight anything and everything just to survive and keep moving forward. It’s a wild ride!

4) Violet Evergarden

Kyoto Animation’s original anime is celebrated for both its stunning animation and deeply moving story. The series follows Violet, a young woman who was raised as a soldier and struggles with emotions. Having spent her entire childhood in war, she doesn’t know how to interact with normal society. Her life changes when, after recovering from injuries, she realizes she’s lost contact with Major Gilbert Bougainvillea, the commanding officer she served with, now that the war has ended.

Violet lived to carry out Gilbert’s commands, as he was the only person she truly trusted. After the war, she struggled to find a place in a peaceful world. She discovered a new purpose by becoming an Auto Memory Doll, writing letters that helped people express their feelings, and in doing so, began to understand emotions herself.

3) Yona of The Dawn

Last December, the anime announced it would be continuing after a ten-year wait, coinciding with the manga’s ending. The story is a romantic fantasy set in a historical world, following Princess Yona and her protector, Hak, as they flee the castle following the murder of King Il. Yona is devastated to learn that her childhood friend, Soo-Won, was responsible for her father’s death.

Despite a difficult start, Yona quickly recovers and dedicates herself to improving her kingdom, even without being queen. Joined by Hak, the famed Dragon Warriors, and a brilliant young man named Yoon, she journeys throughout the land to fight the corruption and oppression that grew during her father’s rule.

2) To Your Eternity

This highly praised anime is known as one of the most heartbreaking ever made, exploring the idea that living forever comes at the cost of deep loneliness and pain. The story starts with a mysterious orb sent to Earth to watch the world, able to change into anything it finds – from rocks and animals to people. Initially, this orb exists as a rock for centuries before becoming a wolf. It then encounters a solitary boy raised by wolves, who dreams of escaping the harsh, frozen landscape he lives in, but sadly never gets the chance.

Following the boy’s passing, Fushi adopts his appearance and begins a lengthy journey to understand the world around him. He meets many different people, experiencing their joys, hardships, and ultimately, their deaths. These encounters profoundly affect him, teaching him about the complexities of human feelings.

1) Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

This new version of the anime closely follows the original manga and tells the complete story in 64 episodes, moving the plot forward at a consistent speed. Before Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End came out, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood held the top spot on MyAnimeList for a long time. The series is captivating because it tackles serious themes like war and what it means to be human, but it also includes plenty of humor and focuses on developing its characters.

Edward and Alphonse Elric, as children, attempted a forbidden act in alchemy: bringing their mother back to life. Despite being impossible, the failed attempt cost Edward an arm and Alphonse his entire body. Determined to fix their mistake, the brothers set out on a quest to find the mythical Philosopher’s Stone, but the reality they uncover is far more shocking than they could have imagined.
