Nintendo Switch 2 Was the Best-Selling Console in the US in 2025

Despite a challenging year for console sales overall, Nintendo has thrived thanks to the release of the Switch 2. Data from analyst Mat Piscatella at Circana shows the Switch 2 was the top-selling console in the US, with 4.4 million units sold in the country. Importantly, the new console is selling even faster than the original Switch did when it launched in 2017.

I’m blown away by how well the Switch 2 is doing! Apparently, it’s single-handedly kept console hardware sales from dropping overall – that’s huge! Piscatella pointed out that it’s even beating out the PS5, which came in second. And get this – he called it the fastest-selling console platform ever. Seriously, it’s making history!

In the US, Battlefield 6 was the best-selling game of 2025. It was followed by NBA 2K26, Borderlands 4, and Monster Hunter Wilds in second, third, and fourth place, respectively. Several older games also remained popular, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 at number ten, Minecraft at thirteen, Forza Horizon 5 at sixteen, and Grand Theft Auto 5 rounding out the top twenty.

Piscatella recently shared sales data for December. The Switch 2 was the best-selling piece of hardware, but Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was the top-selling game in the US. Battlefield 6 came in third place for game sales that month.

Nintendo is currently doing well, but according to Niko Partners, a research firm, the price of the upcoming Switch 2 may increase. This is due to a global shortage of memory chips that’s impacting manufacturing costs. Although the Switch 2 is currently expected to be priced competitively with consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo might need to raise the price to remain profitable.
