In 2024, The Bat-Man: First Knight offered a fresh take on the classic Batman story, reimagining his early days with a more realistic and intense approach. The film, which presented a compelling and thought-provoking origin story for the Dark Knight, was successful enough to warrant a sequel in 2025 that…
Despite staying mostly realistic, the second book in the popular DC Black Label series takes a slight detour by introducing Superman to the story, even though he wouldn’t meet Batman in the comics for several more years. However, it’s precisely this appearance by Superman that makes The Bat-Man: Second Knight a book destined to become a classic.
Superman Finally Appears In The Bat-Man: Second Knight #2
Dan Jurgens’ comic book, The Bat-Man: Second Knight #2, released on December 17, 2025, continues the story immediately after the first issue. Gotham City is in chaos following a shooting at a movie premiere, leaving Bruce Wayne seriously injured. Lois Lane and Julie Madison are also in danger, having been driven off a cliff, but Superman arrives just in time to save them.
Artists Mike Perkins and Mike Spicer beautifully captured the look of classic pulp comics in their artwork for The Bat-Man: First Knight and Second Knight. They even accurately recreated details like Batman’s rarely seen purple gloves. They brought the same attention to detail to Superman’s first comic appearance (seen on page 11 of issue #2), notably giving him a slightly different version of the simpler crest originally designed by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
The story shifts as he changes into everyday clothes, pretending to be Clark Kent. He then partners with his coworker, Lois Lane, who doesn’t know his secret, to investigate whether she was drugged before her accident. Meanwhile, a recovering but determined Bruce Wayne, as Batman, is separately investigating the cause of the previous night’s violence.
Superman then arrives to help Batman, and it’s clear news of Superman’s powers hasn’t traveled far – the guards are amazed when bullets bounce harmlessly off him, and he points out how much ammunition they’re wasting. After they defeat their enemies, Superman asks Batman to explain what’s going on.
Superman’s Appearance Is Hinted In The Bat-Man: Second Knight #1
Fans were excited and surprised to see Superman appear in Dan Jurgens’ The Bat-Man series. However, hints in the first issue of Second Knight already suggested the Man of Steel existed within that universe, so it wasn’t a complete shock.
This series doesn’t mention Kal-El or Clark Kent by name until Issue #2. However, the first issue of The Bat-Man: Second Knight strongly hints at their existence by featuring Lois Lane in a key part of the story.
The talented reporter doesn’t appear until page twenty-three, where she sees Bruce Wayne collecting his girlfriend, Julie Madison, from the train station. She immediately looks for a payphone to report back to her editor – a detail that subtly foreshadows the arrival of a colleague from the Daily Star.
During their discussion, Lane shares she’s in Gotham to cover the premiere of Miss Madison’s film, Night of a Thousand Cuts. However, she becomes intrigued by stories of a bat-like figure operating in the city. This curiosity draws her into the chaos at the movie premiere, where she meets Julie Madison, and together they find themselves in a dangerous situation that eventually attracts Superman’s notice.
What Is Next For The Bat-Man And Superman?
As a huge fan, I knew something special was happening the second Superman showed up in The Bat-Man: Second Knight #2. It quickly became obvious this comic was going to be a totally new take on the classic team-up DC first did way back in 1954 with World’s Finest Vol 1 #71. And honestly, the very last panel really nailed the vibe – the way Superman challenged Batman, telling him to drop the act, just felt right and perfectly captured their competitive dynamic.
Okay, so things are getting crazy with this Batman and Hush team-up! Looking at the cover for The Bat-Man: Second Knight #3, it’s pretty obvious Superman is going to be a huge part of how everything wraps up. The last couple of issues had awesome old-school character art forming Batman’s shape, but this time? It’s Superman’s silhouette they’re using instead. Definitely makes you think he’ll be a key player in the finale!
The season finale promises a terrifying experience for Gotham’s residents, as Scarecrow teams up with the dangerous Hangman. Batman and Superman are the city’s only hope, but it seems the two heroes might disagree on how to handle the situation.
Real DC Comics enthusiasts love seeing their heroes work together, even when they argue. It’s the playful disagreements, both major and minor, that make these team-ups so enjoyable.
It’s going to be difficult to wait to see more of the classic Batman and Superman team-up. Luckily, The Batman: Second Knight #3 is coming out on February 25, 2026.
