I Can’t Wait To See Kate McKinnon In Percy Jackson Season 3, But I Had No Idea Amy Poehler Was Involved In Her Casting

The season finale of Percy Jackson was amazing! Though we have to wait for new episodes, a third season is already being made and will eventually be released. TopMob recently spoke with the show’s creators, who revealed two exciting new actors joining the cast for the The Titan’s Curse adaptation.

How Amy Poehler Factored Into Kate McKinnon‘s Percy Jackson Casting

Last October, it was revealed that Kate McKinnon, known from Saturday Night Live, would play the goddess of love, Aphrodite, in the upcoming season. I recently spoke with the showrunners, and Dan Shotz explained how he decided to cast McKinnon – and it turns out another former SNL cast member played a surprising role in the decision.

I recall hearing her on Amy Poehler’s podcast, or something similar. We’re huge fans of Kate McKinnon, and listening to her talk about her life made me think she’d be a perfect fit for a project. I immediately called my colleagues and suggested we reach out to see if she’d be interested.

He’s referring to Good Hang With Amy Poehler, which won a Golden Globe in 2026 for “Best Podcast.” Apparently, the podcast is why McKinnon landed a role in Season 3 of Percy Jackson, and it’s only increased my appreciation for Poehler’s interview series. Shotz also shared with TopMob what happened after McKinnon appeared on an October episode of Good Hang.

We reached out, and her team immediately said she’d be thrilled to be involved. She’s a fan of the show, and that was all it took. It’s amazing how sometimes finding the right person – someone who loves the project and wants to play a memorable role like Aphrodite – can be that simple.

In the third Percy Jackson book, The Titan’s Curse, Percy encounters Aphrodite, who is predictably curious about his romantic interests. I’m already excited to see how the actor McKinnon will portray her playful personality.

Percy Jackson Showrunners Told Me About Getting Marvel’s Dafne Keen, Too

Besides McKinnon, Season 3 also featured Dafne Keen, well-known for her role as Laura Kinney / X-23 in the films Logan and Deadpool & Wolverine. Here’s what the show’s creator, Shotz, had to say about casting her as Artemis:

Dafne Keen was already familiar with many of our actors. She’d moved in the same Hollywood circles as them, having befriended several cast members previously. So, when we asked her to join the project, she was excited to work with friends and immediately agreed.

In the book The Titan’s Curse, Artemis, the goddess of the moon, aids Percy and his friends in their battle against the manticore. She leads a group of skilled female warriors known as the Hunters of Artemis. Recent comments from Shotz regarding Season 3 of Percy Jackson have generated a lot of anticipation. Filming for the final part of the season has resumed, and the new season is expected to be released later this year.
