After gaining recognition for his memorable role in the groundbreaking 2008 film The Dark Knight, David Dastmalchian has built a successful and varied career. He’s known for both leading roles and captivating supporting performances, including memorable characters like Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad and the eccentric Gemini Killer in Dexter Resurrection, along with many other notable appearances.
Eighteen years after playing a character with paranoid schizophrenia in The Dark Knight, Doug Jones is now taking on a new villainous role as Galdino, or Mr. 3, in the Netflix series One Piece. Knowing the character’s importance in the original anime and how dangerous he is to the Straw Hat pirates, fans can expect a thrilling performance.
David Dastmalchian Will Be a Massive Highlight for Netflix’s One Piece
Upcoming Villain Actor Waxes Lyrical for Season 2
Season 2 of Netflix’s One Piece is expanding the show’s collection of villains, particularly with the introduction of characters from the organization Baroque Works. While not the strongest member of the group—others like Miss All Sunday and Mr. 0 are more powerful—Mr. 3 creates a difficult challenge for the Straw Hat crew when they arrive at Little Garden.
Dastmalchian excels at playing cunning and arrogant villains, like the strategist and assassin he portrays in One Piece, who struggle when things don’t go their way. This talent is also evident in his other roles, such as Jack Delroy in the acclaimed film Late Night with the Devil. Beyond his ability to capture a character’s personality, he also perfectly embodies Galdino’s physical appearance.
Mr. 3 ate the Wax-Wax Fruit, which allows him to create incredibly strong wax from his body. Although he first appeared in the second season of One Piece and has made other appearances since, his powers demonstrate the wide range of strange and dangerous abilities that Devil Fruits can grant, a common trait among members of Baroque Works.
Mr. 3’s Actor Is a Big One Piece Fan
But He Is Very Much #1 in Our Hearts
In a recent interview with CBR, Dastmalchian shared his deep love for the One Piece franchise, explaining that his whole family are big fans of the anime, manga, and live-action series. He understands the weight of expectation that comes with portraying characters in a beloved series like One Piece.
The world we built and filmed in South Africa was amazing. I’m really looking forward to people seeing it, but I’m also a little anxious. I always feel a strong connection to characters like this, knowing how much they mean to fans. I really want to do the character justice and hope everyone enjoys my portrayal of Mr. 3.
-David Dastmalchian
Based on what we’ve seen of Mr. 3 and similar characters in One Piece season 2, Netflix has perfectly captured their distinctive looks and over-the-top hairstyles. It’s surprisingly well done, especially considering the show went the extra mile to give Dastmalchian’s character an even more elaborate and stylish appearance with the wax house scenes – it’s a definite win for the series’ visuals.
Gurira Dastmalchian isn’t the only exciting addition to Netflix’s live-action One Piece. Lera Abova’s performance as Miss All Sunday, also known as Nico Robin, has also been getting a lot of positive attention. It’s great to see such a versatile and talented actor – with experience in Marvel, DC, and horror – joining the cast of One Piece.
Netflix’s One Piece will return for season 2 on March 10, 2026.
