Warning: This article reveals details from Season 2 of The Pitt. Even though The Pitt remains a fantastic show, one thing has really stuck with me. The first season debuted on HBO Max in January 2025, delivering 15 episodes filled with emotional medical stories, real conversations, and memorable characters. Season 2 began in January 2026 and has so far focused on new staff member Baran Al-Hashimi (played by Sepideh Moafi), Dr. Mel King (Taylor Deardon) getting ready for a legal deposition, and Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball) returning after rehab.
With so many TV shows dragging on with unnecessary episodes, The Pitt consistently stands out as excellent. The characters are well-developed, and even minor ones are interesting. However, I believe a single change before the second season could have made the show even better.
‘The Pitt’ Season 2 Follows The Same Structure As Season 1

HBO Max
Season 2 of The Pitt might jump forward in time by 10 months, but overall, it will likely feel very similar to Season 1. Both seasons will have 15 episodes, each focusing on a single hour of work at the hospital. This format really works, and I think it’s best for the show.
What I appreciate about The Pitt is how much attention it pays to small details. If each season covered a longer period – weeks or months – those nuances would likely be lost. I especially enjoy the little moments, like the inside jokes and casual conversations, such as the planning for Victoria Javadi’s (Shabana Azeez) 21st birthday. Unlike other medical dramas like Pulse and Grey’s Anatomy which thrive on dramatic events and problematic behavior, The Pitt offers something different.
‘The Pitt’ Season 2’s Weekly Release Schedule Is a Problem

HBO Max
Considering the unusual way The Pitt is released, it brings up a big question: do people enjoy watching shows one episode a week, or do they prefer watching them all at once? It’s possible there are benefits to both ways of watching. Not long ago, the idea of watching multiple episodes—or even a whole season—without waiting each week felt revolutionary. Of course, you could watch a lot at once with DVDs or by recording episodes, like with TiVo. But the term “binge-watching” really only became popular with the rise of streaming services.
Growing up, I really enjoyed watching teen dramas on The WB, like Gilmore Girls, Everwood, and Dawson’s Creek. It was something I looked forward to each week. I discovered Lost a bit later and quickly watched the final seasons on DVD, eager to see how it all ended. Nowadays, most shows release all their episodes at once, so waiting week by week feels a little old-fashioned. But The Pitt isn’t like those traditional shows at all.
Everyone’s still buzzing about The Pitt, which many consider to be one of the best TV shows of 2025. It stands out from typical medical dramas – it truly feels special, and I’m not alone in saying that. This raises a question: why is it being released one episode at a time? It’s particularly unusual for a show that’s been praised for being so original and captivating. Weekly releases work for HBO’s popular dramas like Euphoria, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and the chilling It: Welcome to Derry. However, The Pitt streams on HBO Max, not traditional HBO.
Does releasing the show week by week just build anticipation and keep people talking? I’m not the only one constantly mentioning Dr. Robby and Dana, and I’d still be doing that even if the whole season was available immediately. Actually, releasing The Pitt Season 2 in two parts would be fantastic. They could release the first seven or eight episodes all at once, then wait a month before releasing the rest. That would give fans something to discuss and create a logical break point in the story.
Most popular shows on streaming platforms don’t release episodes weekly, so we didn’t want to do that with this one either. Think about if all eight episodes of Stranger Things Season 5 had been released one per week over two months – there would have been a lot of frustration! While dividing Season 5 into three parts wasn’t everyone’s favorite choice, it at least allowed fans to watch a few episodes, process them, and then eagerly await the next batch. It was great to lose ourselves in the world of the Upside Down, and it would be fantastic to spend more time with Dr. Robby and the other brilliant doctors.

The way The Pitt is made could be perfect for viewers who like to watch multiple episodes in a row. While each episode covers one hour of work, not every one is full of intense action. For example, one episode might feature unusual medical cases, while another focuses on more subtle character development. Because the show has a good balance of exciting and calm moments, releasing several episodes at a time would likely be a good idea.
A key question is whether viewers prefer to watch several episodes at once, like a traditional binge-watch. If that’s how people are enjoying the show, it might make sense to release episodes that way. While weekly releases are important for ratings, HBO Max has already ordered a third season of The Pitt, which is great news! Perhaps when Dr. Robby returns after his break in Season 3, the entire series will be available to binge, and I believe that would enhance the viewing experience.
