The second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians ended with a lot of suspense and surprising moments. Walker Scobell, the actor who plays Percy Jackson, has now shared that season 3 will be quite different from the first two seasons.
In the story, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover guide the demigods of Camp Half-Blood into a fight against Luke and his followers, who are trying to bring the titan Kronos back to life. The battle ends with Clarisse finishing her personal quest and using the Golden Fleece to heal Thalia’s tree. But the Fleece did more than just repair the tree – it also brought Thalia back to life.
In Rick Riordan’s The Sea of Monsters, Thalia stays a tree throughout the story. However, the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians brings her character back to life, opening up new possibilities for her story and the world of Greek mythology. The show reveals Thalia didn’t become a tree simply because she was brave; Zeus actually turned her into a tree to keep her at Camp Half-Blood. He did this because she learned about a significant prophecy and refused to be used as a tool in a larger conflict, and he wanted to maintain control over her.
In a recent interview with Deadline, actor Walker Scobell shared that the new season will be geared towards a more mature audience than the first two. He explained that the show’s creators recognize many of their original viewers have grown up along with the characters and want to appeal to both longtime fans and adults who enjoyed the books as children.
Season 3 feels more grown-up compared to the first two seasons. The way Season 2 ended really establishes the mood for what’s coming. The writers seem to be aiming for a slightly older audience, assuming viewers have matured along with the show, and I think that’s great.
Walker Scobell also noted that Percy Jackson and the Olympians is already becoming more serious and complex as the show progresses, particularly in season 2. He expressed his satisfaction with the story’s development and hopes the series continues beyond a single additional season, allowing viewers to see the characters continue to evolve.
It really highlights how harsh their world is – this kind of situation is unfortunately pretty typical for demigods in this story. I’m glad we’re showing that our characters aren’t all-powerful and can get hurt. It’s important to keep that in mind, especially with everything coming up in Season 3, and hopefully future seasons if the show continues.
As of today, we don’t have a firm release date for season 3 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, but it’s expected to come out sometime in 2026.
