The Biggest Sci-Fi Bomb of 2025 Just Left Peacock for a New Streaming Home

2025 was a fantastic year for science fiction movies. Several films, including Avatar: Fire and Ash, Jurassic World Rebirth, Companion, and a new take on Frankenstein, were both huge hits with audiences and praised by critics. However, not all sci-fi movies succeeded. One film, in particular, didn’t perform well and has now moved from Peacock to a different streaming platform after losing its exclusive home.

The horror film M3gan 2.0 didn’t fare as well as its predecessor. While the first M3gan was a huge success, earning $181 million worldwide, the sequel only brought in $39 million despite costing between $15 and $25 million to make. After a brief and unsuccessful run in theaters, M3gan 2.0 initially streamed on Peacock, but it was unexpectedly removed on January 26th and is now available exclusively on Netflix. The film features the rebuilt AI doll battling a human-like military robot named AMELIA.

M3gan 2.0’s Action-Heavy Shift Fell Flat With Viewers

I was really disappointed with the shift from the first M3GAN to M3GAN 2.0. It wasn’t just about how much money the sequel made – the critics clearly felt it didn’t measure up either. The original was ‘Certified Fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes with a fantastic 93% rating, but the sequel only got 57%. Honestly, it just didn’t deliver what fans were hoping for. The first movie had this perfect balance of horror and comedy, and that special, viral charm. M3GAN 2.0 tried to be something different – more of a campy action-comedy with a spy theme – and it just didn’t quite work.

Unlike the first movie, which became a viral sensation with its playfully spooky vibe, M3gan 2.0 didn’t quite capture the same magic. It toned down M3gan’s menacing personality, making her less scary and unpredictable, and ultimately reducing the suspense. Kofi Outlaw of ComicBook gave the film a 2 out of 5, describing it as a confusing mix of styles that was often embarrassing, though he did admit it was still enjoyably silly – even more so than the original.

Jason Blum, head of Blumhouse, admitted they made some errors in judgment that contributed to the disappointing performance of M3GAN 2.0. He explained on The Town podcast that they initially believed the character was so popular, they could do anything with the story. However, they overestimated how much audiences would continue to connect with her. Despite this, the film wasn’t a total failure. It has an 81% audience approval rating and did reasonably well on Peacock. It’s still possible M3GAN 2.0 will become popular on Netflix as well.

What’s New on Peacock?

Even though Peacock might no longer be the only place to stream M3gan 2.0, there’s still a lot to enjoy on the platform. January offered a fantastic selection of movies, including classics like The Green Mile and the How to Train Your Dragon series. And February is shaping up to be just as good, with popular titles like Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Happy Gilmore, and Man on Fire coming soon.
