Batman and Spider-Man are arguably the most recognizable superheroes ever created. Both are legendary figures for their respective publishers and have become household names, moving beyond comic books to achieve widespread cultural recognition. While they share many similarities – like a dedication to saving people and tragic origins – fans often debate which hero has the better collection of villains. Spider-Man and Batman are known for having exceptionally iconic and compelling enemies, so it’s common for people to imagine how villains from one universe would fare against the heroes of the other.
Let’s consider a fun ‘what if’ scenario: what if Spider-Man’s villains faced off against Batman? We’ll look at seven of Spider-Man’s enemies who could potentially defeat the Dark Knight. Just to be clear, I’m a big Batman fan! This isn’t about declaring these villains would win, only that they possess the tools to possibly do so. Batman is incredibly skilled, but he’s still human. Spider-Man, on the other hand, has actual superpowers. While Batman could likely handle most of Spider-Man’s enemies, these seven present the biggest challenge and might even pull off an upset. Let’s explore how these villains, normally outside of Batman’s world, would fare.
7) Rhino

Coming in at number seven is Spider-Man’s incredibly strong villain, the Rhino. His whole concept is straightforward: he’s built like a rhino, meaning he’s immensely powerful, durable, and charges headfirst into everything. While Batman often faces physically imposing enemies, none of his usual foes match Rhino’s sheer strength. If the Dark Knight isn’t cautious, he could be easily overwhelmed, and his typical gadgets probably wouldn’t do much more than momentarily delay the Rhino. Batman has overcome much stronger opponents, like Superman and Darkseid, but a surprise attack from the Rhino could definitely give him a victory.
6) Morlun

Morlun is a powerful, multiversal vampire who drains the energy from animal spirits. Given Batman’s connection to bats, this enemy feels like a natural fit for the Dark Knight’s world. However, Morlun is incredibly strong – even stronger than the Hulk – and can track anyone he touches across the globe, leaving Batman with no room to strategize. Spider-Man defeated him by using radiation, something Batman couldn’t survive. While Batman might be able to surprise Morlun initially, the villain’s endless stamina and ruthless willingness to harm innocent people to get to his target would make a victory extremely unlikely.
5) Sandman

Considering his abilities, Sandman is remarkably similar to Clayface. He can change into any form, divide himself into countless copies, and even rebuild himself from a single grain of sand. He’s powerful enough to engulf an entire beach and completely bury Gotham City in a matter of hours. A fight between Batman and Sandman would likely mirror the chaos when Swamp Thing first arrived in Gotham, leading to a full-scale assault on the city. Sandman is a truly dangerous villain who could cause much more destruction if he wanted to. In fact, he could defeat most superheroes who aren’t among the most powerful.
4) Hydro-Man

If Sandman is an enhanced version of Clayface, then Hydro-Man is an even more powerful Sandman. While Clayface and Sandman have limitations based on their materials, Hydro-Man is pure water and can control any water source. This means he could potentially merge with the ocean and cause a global flood. Very few heroes could stop a tsunami, let alone one that can actively fight back. Luckily, Hydro-Man isn’t very bright and doesn’t fully utilize his abilities. However, if he became smarter or fell under someone else’s control, he could quickly become one of Batman’s greatest threats.
3) Digger

This incredibly strong zombie, created from the remains of seven criminals and brought to life by the same explosion that created the Hulk, is a dangerous opponent. While his unstable form limits his full potential, he’s still powerful enough to seriously injure even Spider-Man and could easily defeat Batman with a direct hit. Batman’s best chance would be to exhaust the zombie’s energy, but if caught off guard, the Caped Crusader could be defeated very quickly, similar to a fight against Solomon Grundy.
2) Solus

Solus is the original Inheritor, and the father of Morlun, making him far more powerful than all of his descendants – beings already strong enough to rival the Hulk. He’s an incredibly difficult foe to kill, and unlike any villain Batman typically faces. Solus once completely absorbed the power of a Spider-Man enhanced by the Enigma Force, proving he’s even stronger than Captain Universe. Batman is highly capable, but this is a threat he can’t handle alone. It took the combined might of the entire Spider-Verse to defeat Solus previously, and this scenario focuses on Batman facing him without any help.
1) Itsy Bitsy

This dangerous assassin is a twisted combination of Spider-Man and Deadpool, possessing all their abilities but amplified to an extreme degree. She’s as agile and strong as Spider-Man, heals as rapidly as Deadpool, and even surpasses them both in power – she’s stronger than Spider-Man and can survive being completely destroyed. Adding to that, she can spit corrosive acid and create organic webbing. Essentially, Itsy Bitsy is a wildly powerful, seemingly indestructible version of Spider-Man, making her a truly frightening foe. While Batman typically avoids killing, this assassin’s resilience allows him to fight without restraint. However, even with that freedom, Itsy Bitsy is still capable of winning a straight-up fight, which is why it’s a good thing Batman rarely plays by the rules.
We’ve looked at seven Spider-Man villains who might actually have a shot at beating Batman. While it’s unlikely any of them would win in a fight, they definitely have the potential.
