Out of the extensive Bridgerton cast of characters, few are more important than the eponymous family. Each season follows a new blossoming love story in Regency Era England, under the fearsome reign of Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel).

Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) takes center stage in season 4, falling in love with a mysterious lady in silver, who, unbeknownst to him, is a working-class maid named Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha). The response to Bridgerton season 4 has been mixed thus far, but Sophie and Benedict’s burgeoning relationship is no match for a consequential, long-running friendship in the series.

Queen Charlotte & Lady Danbury’s Friendship Is The Most Important Relationship In Bridgerton Season 4

When I first started watching Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte seemed like this incredibly intimidating figure, totally in charge of everyone in Mayfair and a bit unpredictable, honestly. But as the show – and especially the Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story prequel – went on, it became clear she’s not actually cold or controlling, just really good at hiding what she’s feeling. It turns out she only truly lets her guard down with Lady Danbury, and their friendship is the key to understanding the real Charlotte.

Since becoming Queen, Charlotte has relied on Agatha as a close friend and advisor, initially as a lady-in-waiting and later simply as a companion. However, the upcoming season of Bridgerton presents a challenge: Lady Danbury wants to step back from the busy social scene, but Queen Charlotte won’t allow it.

Queen Charlotte feels deeply betrayed and abandoned by Lady Danbury’s decision to leave, and tries to use her power as Queen to convince Agatha to stay. In a surprisingly vulnerable moment, the Queen is moved to tears, and Agatha eventually agrees to remain at court, at least until a suitable replacement can be found.

Bridgerton Season 4, Part 2 Needs To Liven Up Queen Charlotte & Lady Danbury’s Storyline

One of the most captivating things about the first half of Bridgerton season 4 was the dynamic between Lady Danbury and Queen Charlotte – their tension was just so good! But honestly, the second half needs to give us a satisfying payoff to their decades-long friendship. We got a nice surprise seeing the Queen show a more vulnerable side, but it would be truly heartbreaking – and a real misstep for the show, in my opinion – if they drove a wedge between these two. I’m really hoping for a resolution that honors their history.

The conflict between them does add some drama, but it’s disheartening for fans who love seeing Lady Danbury and Queen Charlotte together. Their relationship has always been a bright spot, even during the show’s toughest moments, and they deserve a bit of happiness after everything they’ve been through.

Charlotte’s hesitation about Lady Danbury’s travels shows how much she values their friendship, and the second part of Bridgerton season 4 should bring them back together with a positive resolution. Lady Danbury is such an important character in the series that it’s unlikely she’d be kept away from her friend for long.
