Netflix is renewing one of its biggest hits from 2025 for a second season, and it’s expected to be even more gripping than the first. The initial season, a Danish thriller, quickly became incredibly popular, reaching the #1 spot on Netflix’s Top 10 list and racking up 91.7 million viewing hours in its first month.
After becoming a hit last year, the streaming service has officially renewed the crime drama The Asset for a second season. The first season, which premiered last October, followed an undercover agent named Tea who had to befriend the wife of a drug smuggler to solve his crimes. As Tea got closer to her target, her mission became increasingly difficult, and she risked everything – her job and her future – to help her new friend. Though the first season offered some resolution, fans will be thrilled to know a new story is on the way.
What Does the Next Season Have in Store?
Viewers have really embraced The Asset, and we’re excited to explore the characters and their stories even further in season two,” says Conceptual Director Samanou Acheche Sahlstrøm. “This season will be full of surprises as Tea and Ashley’s lives intersect again, and they face challenges that will test them like never before. Clara Dessau, Maria Cordsen, Afshin Firouzi, Nicolas Bro, Soheil Bavi, and some new faces will be returning, and filming will begin in Copenhagen later this year.
Critics give the series a 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while general audiences seem to like it even more, giving it an 80% score on the Popcornmeter. Karina Adelgaard from Heaven of Horror praises the show’s good pacing, calling it “very binge-worthy.” She notes that it’s similar in style to other popular Danish Netflix shows, but considers it one of their better productions.
Viewers are praising the series The Asset. One gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars, highlighting how quickly the characters and their unique personalities draw you in. They also appreciated the show’s excellent pacing and how the music enhanced the thrilling atmosphere.
