Killer Mike Returns to Grammys 2 Years After His Arrest at Award Show

Killer Mike isn’t going to let his previous arrest kill his vibe at the 2026 Grammys.

Two years after being arrested at the Grammy Awards, rapper Killer Mike (whose real name is Michael Santiago Render) returned to Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on February 1st to attend the celebration of music’s biggest night.

I was so happy to see Killer Mike on the red carpet with his wife, Shana Render, who he’s been with for 20 years! He looked comfortable in a green velour tracksuit and a big gold chain. It’s good to know that even though there was a bit of a situation with a security guard – something about a misdemeanor battery charge – it never actually led to anything formal. I was just thrilled to see him looking good and supporting his wife.

And the 50-year-old considers his past run-in with the law all “water under the bridge.”

He explained on The View in February 2024 that the area behind the stage was very crowded after the event. He added that the winners were thrilled, and it seemed like security overreacted a bit.

Besides, Killer Mike noted that “all of my heroes have been in handcuffs.”

The Run the Jewels rapper, who received awards for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Song that evening, explained, ‘I left with the same composure and respect I had when I arrived, and I hope people can focus on that.’

The entire experience was also detailed in his 2024 single “Humble Me.”

Killer Mike celebrated his Grammy win by dedicating it to Atlanta, but his joy was quickly overshadowed by an arrest. He rapped about achieving success, only to feel like he was being treated unfairly and degraded after being taken into custody, comparing the experience to being an animal.

He added, “I believe that humility and worship granted me God’s grace in the face of that test.”

This year, his song “Headphones,” featuring Lecrae and T.I., was up for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song. However, Jelly Roll and Brandon Lake won the award with their song, “Hard Fought Hallelujah.”
