Star Trek is a massive science fiction series that’s been adapted into video games since 1971, just two years after the original show ended. While many Star Trek games haven’t been great, there are several enjoyable titles released over the years that any fan would appreciate. We’ve selected five of the best, spanning different genres and gaming systems, to give you a good variety. These games are ranked based on what critics thought of them when they were released, how popular they’ve been with players, and how well they fit into the overall Star Trek story.
5) Star Trek: Starfleet Command III

Star Trek: Starfleet Command III is the last game in the Starfleet Command series, taking place in the 24th century. Players can choose to command ships from one of three major factions – the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, or the Federation – each with its own unique story-based missions. The Borg are also featured as downloadable content, but don’t fit into the main storyline. The game lets you control and upgrade starships using RPG elements, making it a well-loved title in that style. It was re-released in 2021 on GoG.com, meaning you can still enjoy this 2002 classic on today’s computers.
4) Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force

First-person shooter games set in the Star Trek universe are rare, but the ones that exist are generally well-regarded, even if they aren’t widely known. Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force, released in 2000 by Raven Software, takes place during the sixth season of Star Trek: Voyager. The story centers around the USS Voyager being attacked by aliens while stuck in a dangerous area of space, requiring urgent repairs to escape. A special team, the Hazard Team, works to defend the ship during this critical time. While the gameplay is similar to other first-person shooters from that period, Elite Force stands out for its strong, story-focused campaign that drives the plot forward. It includes many familiar characters, weapons, and cutscenes featuring the crew of the Voyager. The game was praised by critics, but unfortunately didn’t sell as well as hoped, meaning fewer fans have had the chance to play it.
3) Star Trek: Resurgence

Star Trek: Resurgence is an adventure game that takes place after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis. Players follow the stories of Jara Rydek and Carter Diaz aboard the USS Resolute as they become entangled in a large alien conspiracy involving Ambassador Spock and two fighting groups. The game lets you shape the story through choices you make in conversations and during action sequences. Though some players found there were too many quick-time events, the game generally fits well within the established Star Trek universe, continuing the storylines from the films of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Picard.
2) Star Trek: The Next Generation – A Final Unity

Star Trek: The Next Generation – A Final Unity is a point-and-click adventure game released a year after the TV series ended. The original cast returned to voice their characters in this game, which was a popular style in the early 1990s. Players can explore space, engage in diplomacy, and command their ship in battles, all within a story set in the Romulan Neutral Zone. The game’s plot isn’t based on any specific episodes, but takes place between the first two episodes of Season 7. Designed specifically for fans of The Next Generation, A Final Unity successfully captures the show’s atmosphere and style.
1) Star Trek: Judgement Rites

Interplay Productions created some of the most highly-regarded Star Trek video games, including Star Trek: Judgement Rites in 1993. This game featured the original cast in a brand-new story, and it was the final time DeForest Kelley voiced his character before his death in 1999. Judgement Rites continues the story of Star Trek: 25th Anniversary, but with several improvements. While both games used a similar engine, the CD-ROM version of Judgement Rites had enhanced graphics and sound, and players could choose whether or not to engage in space battles. Both titles are fantastic adaptations of Star Trek into video game format, but Judgement Rites is generally considered the better of the two.
