Because of that, and the fact they still represent a unique part of British life, I was incredibly excited when a show came out promising a real look into Queen Elizabeth’s extraordinary reign. It’s no surprise so many people tuned in – her story is just endlessly fascinating.
The series truly came to life, transforming a promising concept into a show that viewers eagerly returned to each season. Featuring a fantastic cast and a captivating look at the personal and hidden lives of royalty, it quickly became incredibly engaging.
Why The Crown Feels Different From Other Netflix Shows
Though The Crown covers nearly a century of history and features different actors taking on roles throughout its six seasons, it’s not structured as a traditional anthology. This approach allowed the show to develop alongside its viewers and explore the story from many angles.
I’ve been hooked on this show since the beginning, and what always struck me was how the core characters stayed consistent, even as the actresses playing them changed – from Claire Foy to Imelda Staunton, we really saw Elizabeth’s whole life unfold. It’s amazing how much story they managed to tell, and yet it still felt like a complete, satisfying journey. It covered so much ground, but never felt endless!
Even The Crown’s Worst Seasons Are Worth Watching
Most viewers agree that season 5 of The Crown is the weakest, with season 6 close behind. However, even these final seasons still offer strong storytelling and effectively wrap up the series. It’s possible that the show’s success led to harsher criticism of the last two seasons, but that doesn’t diminish the impressive way the story was brought to a conclusion.
As a huge film and TV fan, I have to say The Crown really took on something massive – bringing the story of an entire family, with all their flaws and grandeur, to life. It’s a truly captivating series, offering a really unique look at some of the most famous – and sometimes controversial – people in history.
