‘Scream 7’ Gets Franchise’s First IMAX Release in Super Bowl Trailer

The next Scream movie, titled Scream 7, will be in theaters this February, and the new trailer hints at a first for the series. Neve Campbell is back as Sidney Prescott, alongside Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, and Matthew Lillard as Stu Macher. The film also stars Anna Camp, Joel McHale, McKenna Grace, and Jasmin Savoy Brown. Kevin Williamson, a longtime writer for the Scream movies, wrote the script and is also directing this latest installment.

Early trailers for Scream 7 show the story will center around Sidney Prescott and her daughter, Tatum (played by Isabel May). The identity of the new Ghostface killer is being kept heavily under wraps, with many fans suspecting a connection to Stu, a killer from the original film who was sent to a mental institution. The movie suggests this killer has been planning their attacks for a long time, and that everything that’s happened in the Scream franchise has been building towards their reveal. According to a synopsis released by Paramount Pictures alongside the latest trailer, Scream 7

Sidney Prescott thought she’d escaped her terrifying past, but when a new Ghostface appears and targets her daughter, those fears return. Now, she must confront the horrors she’s tried to leave behind to protect her family and finally stop the cycle of violence.

The newest trailer for Scream 7 gives fans a sneak peek at what’s to come and also announces the movie will be available in IMAX. This is the first time a Scream film has been released in IMAX, and with the sequel promising to be the biggest one yet, fans can experience it on a massive scale when it hits theaters on February 27th.

‘Scream 7’ Isn’t Playing by the Rules

The next Scream movie is hinting at bigger dangers than ever before, with Sidney Prescott now focused on protecting her daughter. While this could mean Sidney’s daughter will become the new main character, it might just be a way to raise the tension. The filmmakers are still finding ways to surprise audiences even after seven films, and they’re even revisiting the seemingly definitive death of Stu Macher. His return could follow a similar pattern to Billy Loomis in recent Scream installments, but some fans speculate he might be the killer himself, or even a mastermind helping to unravel the mystery.

The newest Scream movie is keeping details tightly under wraps, but it introduces several new characters, including Camp and Grace. While previous films have followed a certain set of horror conventions – ones that the original Scream both established and subverted – Scream 7 appears to be throwing all those rules out the window. Fans will soon find out just how far the filmmakers are willing to go when the movie is released later this month.
