Even though it’s still early in the year, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 is already a standout anime. The series returned in January after a thrilling Shibuya Incident Arc that finished in December 2023. While the anime hasn’t covered the entire story yet, the original manga concluded in September 2024. Last September, the author, Gege Akutami, began a sequel manga called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, which features new characters set decades after the Culling Game. With each new chapter of his manga, Akutami includes a special message for fans, and Viz Media shares these notes with international readers in their “Mangaka Musings” section. As the creator of Modulo, Akutami frequently shares his thoughts this way.
Following the release of Chapter 20 in last week’s Wall Street Journal, Jujutsu Kaisen’s creator, Gege Akutami, complimented the updated art style of the anime. He described it as feeling “like a painting” and praised its quality. The third season is receiving positive attention for its distinctive storytelling, smooth animation, and impressive visuals. Akutami agrees with fans who are enjoying the new season. Despite some negative reactions to Episode 4 in Japan, the season continues to be highly rated internationally.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Sets Up The Final Story Arc

The story picks up after a devastating event that has fundamentally altered the world of Jujutsu Sorcery. With the powerful Satoru Gojo sealed away and sorcerers left to fight, Tokyo suffered heavy losses, but the conflict is still ongoing. Kenjaku, responsible for the previous chaos, is now initiating a deadly free-for-all called the Culling Game, forcing sorcerers to battle each other. The new season starts with the Extermination Arc, where Yuta Okkotsu briefly defeats and then revives Yuji Itadori using a special technique.
He took a big risk to help Yuji stay hidden from his superiors. The story then focuses on Maki’s quest for revenge against the Zenin Clan, following the loss of her sister. Now, the anime is building towards the massive, all-out battle fans have been anticipating. It promises to be more action-packed than ever, and we’ll be meeting several new characters. Kenjaku has trapped around 1,000 sorcerers in a deadly competition, including many who are just starting to discover their powers or are the reincarnations of powerful sorcerers from the past.
As a huge Jujutsu Kaisen fan, I’m so hyped for the Culling Game Arc! It’s going to be adapted in two parts, which is awesome, though we don’t have any details on the second part yet. What I’m really excited about is that this arc is packed with twists and turns, all leading up to the epic showdown in Shinjuku – the final battle against Kenjaku and Sukuna! Plus, Yuji and the others aren’t just fighting for themselves; they’ve got to rescue Gojo from the Prison Realm while dodging all sorts of threats. It’s going to be insane!
