Riot Women cast reveal season 2 is set to take a turn “no one will see coming”

Late last year, the BBC announced that a second series of Sally Wainwright’s drama, Riot Women, is in the works. The show clearly resonated with viewers thanks to its focus on music and the strong bonds of female friendship.

The cast of Riot Women recently attended the TopMob Covers Party 2026 and hinted at exciting things to come in the new season. We’ll find out more as the season unfolds.

Amelia Bullmore confirmed that Sally Wainwright, the creator of Happy Valley, will be writing the next series.

Rosalie Craig believes Sally will be forming her own band as part of the show. Tamsin Greig, playing Holly Gaskell, playfully added that she hopes some of the actors will be involved.

Bullmore described her vision for the second season, saying it would include both positive and challenging moments, obstacles to overcome, and performance opportunities.

Greig added: “And there’s gonna be a crafty midpoint that nobody’s going to see coming.”

Following that, things reached a really difficult low, but then there was a clear turning point.

“And then a very peculiar sex act,” Greig concluded. You can watch the video for yourself below.

We’re taking the comments from the women at Riot with a grain of salt, but the main actors seem really excited about what’s next.

When the second season was announced, Sally Wainwright excitedly stated, “Now the real fun begins!”

The creator of the show, who also writes, directs, and produces it, shared how touched they were by the amazing reaction to the first series. They’re excited to build on that success with series two and hope everyone will enjoy the ride!

Lindsay Salt, head of BBC Drama, expressed her delight with “Riot Women,” saying it has resonated with audiences by making them laugh, feel emotional, and connect with one another. She’s excited about what’s next for the show.

Roanna Benn, executive producer at Drama Republic, shared that the team was thrilled with how much audiences connected with Sally’s wonderful characters and stories, hinting at plenty more to come.
