Most Marvel superheroes avoid killing, believing it compromises their values and blurs the line between hero and villain. However, Marvel is also famous for heroes who sometimes cross moral boundaries, justifying their actions as necessary for the greater good. Many anti-heroes have killed numerous people they perceive as threats. In some cases, these heroes have even committed large-scale atrocities, sometimes to ensure survival, and other times due to losing control. Surprisingly, some of these morally ambiguous heroes have caused more deaths than many of Marvel’s most notorious villains.
Superheroes are meant to keep us safe – having superpowers comes with that duty. However, some heroes have actually become major dangers to both people and the universe. This list details the Marvel heroes responsible for the most deaths. We’re including deaths that were reversed through things like time travel or bringing characters back to life, because even if someone returns, they were still killed.
7) Punisher

It’s no surprise that the Punisher, whose life revolves around eliminating criminals, has killed a huge number of people over the years. Relying on his military skills, intelligence, determination, and a vast array of weapons, he’s taken down countless members of the criminal world. Marvel once estimated his kill count at over 48,000, and it’s grown considerably since then. While it seems unbelievable that one person could accomplish such a feat without superpowers, the Punisher is exceptionally skilled at large-scale violence. He’s willing to use any means necessary – from explosives to automatic weapons – to eliminate those he deems criminals.
6) Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch’s story has always been marked by the immense emotional and mental strain caused by her past trauma and incredibly powerful, unpredictable magic. After experiencing devastating losses, including the loss of her children, Wanda’s grief led her to reshape reality, creating a world where mutants were dominant. However, when this false reality crumbled, she lashed out, uttering the fateful words, “no more mutants.” This single act stripped almost all mutants of their powers, and tragically, hundreds of thousands perished – those who were flying, or relying on their abilities to survive, simply couldn’t. With that spell, Scarlet Witch brought the mutant species to the brink of extinction.
5) Thor

Thor, the God of Thunder, is the powerful guardian of Asgard and all Nine Realms. Raised in a warrior society, he’s known for defeating countless enemies with his hammer, Mjolnir. Over thousands of years, he’s battled and destroyed monsters, demons, aliens, and other beings who threatened Asgard. Though he’s become more restrained since joining the Avengers, Thor will still resort to lethal force when necessary. He has killed numerous villains, including Radioactive Man, Loki, and the Serpent.
4) Bishop

Despite his efforts to save the future, Bishop ironically became the cause of a devastating apocalypse. When a mutant named Hope Summers was born, Bishop believed she would bring about the end of the world and tried to kill her. Fortunately, Cable, another time traveler, rescued Hope and took her to the future. Determined to find them, Bishop traveled through time, causing widespread destruction – including nuclear wars, biological attacks, and plagues. He believed wiping out humanity was necessary until after Hope was gone, with the assumption that everything would be restored. Ultimately, Hope returned to the present and reversed the terrible future Bishop created, saving billions of lives.
3) Genis-Vell

Genis-Vell, a clone of the original Captain Marvel, took on his father’s role and powers. However, after achieving incredible cosmic knowledge, he became overwhelmed and lost his mind. In this unstable state, he inadvertently aided the villain Entropy in destroying the universe, even killing the all-powerful being Eternity. Only Entropy, Genis-Vell, and Rick Jones remained. Thankfully, Rick was able to convince Genis-Vell to turn against Entropy, which allowed him to recreate the universe and bring everyone back. Ultimately, the destruction wouldn’t have happened if Genis-Vell hadn’t been driven mad and assisted Entropy.
2) Valeria Richards

Valeria, the daughter of Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman, sometimes shows a cruel side reminiscent of her godfather, Doctor Doom. After a failed time-travel attempt by the Fantastic Four, Valeria wakes up in a changed reality where her brother, Franklin, has become the all-powerful Galactus and rules the universe harshly. In this new world, anyone who breaks the law or speaks out is brainwashed into obedience. Using her incredible intelligence, Valeria builds a device to send a psychic message to her past self, warning the Fantastic Four not to travel through time. This act successfully fixed the original timeline, but it also erased the altered timeline and everyone who lived in it.
1) Namor

Namor, one of Marvel’s earliest superheroes, has a dark side and is responsible for the deaths of many innocents. He’s often switched between being a hero and a villain, even destroying Wakanda and killing thousands. His most terrible acts began when he joined the Illuminati, a secret group facing a crisis where colliding universes threatened Earth. While they built a device to destroy these other universes, only Namor was willing to use it, effectively wiping out trillions of lives. When the threat continued, Namor formed a new group called the Cabal, dedicated to saving Earth at any cost. Under his leadership, the Cabal systematically destroyed entire universes, resulting in one of the largest genocides in Marvel Comics history.
