The new year brings changes for the magazine, with plans to wrap up existing titles to create space for new creators and their works. Several series have already been cancelled, and more are expected to end in the coming weeks and months.

Last year was a time of endings for many popular series in Shonen Jump, with several long-running titles finishing up and even more announcing their final storylines. Now, recent chapters of both The Elusive Samurai by Yusei Matsui and Blue Box by Kouji Miura suggest these two hits may also be nearing their conclusions, potentially sooner than fans expect.

Shonen Jump Prepares for The Elusive Samurai and Blue Box Endings

Some manga series, like Yuto Suzuki’s Sakamoto Days, clearly announce when they’re entering their final storyline. However, other series aren’t so straightforward. The Elusive Samurai hinted at its ending for a while, suggesting it would conclude soon but continuing for a bit longer. Now, with the release of Chapter 236, which appears to have killed off the main character, it seems the series is truly ending without any further story beyond that.

The manga Blue Box feels like it had the potential to continue for many more chapters. While the story centered on the developing romance between the two main characters, and their relationship was only recently confirmed, it seemed like there was plenty of story left. However, with Chapter 228 concluding the storyline involving Hina, it’s now apparent that the series is wrapping up sooner than expected. The author, Miura, also hinted at the approaching conclusion during Jump Festa 2026 last December.

What Does This Mean for Shonen Jump?

Shonen Jump is entering a new phase, with many of its newer series concluding in the early 2020s. This highlights how much the magazine has evolved. In the past, manga in Shonen Jump often ran for over 300 or 400 chapters. Now, most series end much sooner, frequently wrapping up between 100 and 200 chapters, and sometimes even less.

Modern entertainment habits are changing how Shonen Jump manga are made. With so many options available, fans don’t expect anime to be released weekly or series to last for years and years. Because of this, Shonen Jump is adapting by allowing stories to conclude more quickly, rather than requiring creators to extend them unnecessarily.
