With the cast for the upcoming God of War series on Prime Video taking shape, fans were surprised to learn that characters from God of War Ragnarok will appear in Season 1. Many expected those characters, like Heimdall, Thor, and Odin, to be saved for Season 2, assuming the first season would focus solely on the events of the 2018 game. However, the show’s creators are planning to expand on the original games, adding depth to storylines and character relationships. While we’ll have to wait to see their full vision, one significant change has already been revealed.
Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios have now confirmed that Teresa Palmer will play Sif, Thor’s wife, as previously reported. According to a press release, Sif is described as a human woman who became a goddess through her marriage to Thor. The release also highlights that she feels like she doesn’t quite fit in while living among the gods in Asgard. This is a new detail, as previous versions of Sif, like in the video games, always portray her as a goddess without mentioning her mortal origins. You can find the full character description below.
Sif was once a human, but became a goddess when she married Thor. Even with her divine status and three beloved children, she often feels like an outsider among the Asgardian gods. She couldn’t prevent Thor from falling into despair after a devastating war long ago, but Sif has always been resilient, using her intelligence and strength to overcome the challenges of a harsh and unpredictable world.
Sif Could Be One of the Most Interesting Characters in God of War

Sif isn’t a central figure in Norse mythology, and not much is known about her origins. This gave the creators of the God of War games a lot of freedom to develop her character. They kept the core element of her being Thor’s wife, but also added their own ideas. They decided to portray Sif as a human woman who gains goddess powers after encountering Thor, which allows for a really interesting character arc. This major transformation will likely shape Sif and create challenges as she adjusts to her new life.
The mention of Sif having “three children” likely refers to Thrúd, Magni, and Modi—characters from the God of War games who haven’t appeared in the show yet. While Magni and Modi are her step-sons in the games, the show might change that and make Sif their biological mother. This choice will create an interesting family dynamic, potentially contrasting with the relationship between Kratos and Atreus. Sif is a loving mother, and it will be great to see her interact with her sons, something we didn’t get to see in the games. Exploring Sif’s relationship with Magni, Modi, and Thrúd is one way the show can offer a unique perspective and stand apart from the games.
I’m really excited to see how God of War explores Sif as a mother, and especially how it handles her relationship with Thor. This Thor is so different from the one we know in the Marvel movies – he’s deeply troubled and burdened by guilt, used as a weapon by Odin. I think his pain will definitely affect Sif, and maybe even explain why she starts to distrust Odin, believing he isn’t looking out for her family. It sets up a really compelling and heartbreaking story, watching Sif try to help her family stand up to him. It feels like there’s a lot of potential for a powerful character arc for her.
It’s interesting that the show’s creators gave Sif a backstory as a normal human, and it’s unclear if the series will explain why they made that choice. Without knowing much about the plot, one possibility is that this change highlights how different Sif is from the other gods we’ll see. In God of War Ragnarok, Sif isn’t a villain, and she likely won’t be on the show either. What matters most to her isn’t power or conquest—it’s her family. This relatable, human quality could help Sif stay grounded and find some normalcy within the turbulent world of the Nine Realms.
