Star Trek Legend’s Shocking Return & Q Connection Revealed!

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 episode 2.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ third season is underway, as the initial two episodes have already been released with much excitement!

Following the resolution of the significant cliffhanger from Season 2’s finale, Episode 2 reintroduced a genuine Star Trek icon, none other than John de Lancie, which appears to validate a popular fan hypothesis.

In this installment, the USS Enterprise was flipped over by a puzzling prankster whose appearance hinted strongly at Trelane, a character from the initial series, portrayed by William Campbell. However, his name was not explicitly mentioned.

On this occasion, Rhys Darby’s character manipulates events to trick people into thinking Spock (played by Ethan Peck) and Christine (Jess Bush) are getting married, except for Roger Korby (Cillian O’Sullivan), who was her actual date.

In the end, Trelane consents to bring an end to the game – a decision that leads him directly into an encounter with a figure from his past, which fans will undoubtedly recognize as his father.

In simpler terms, the voice we hear belongs to De Lancie, famously portraying Q in the series, reprimanding the mischief-maker. This interaction seemingly solves a mystery dating back decades, strongly hinting that Trelane shares his roots with the Q race.

In this role, De Lancie is making his sixth appearance in a Star Trek series. Previously, he has been featured in The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Lower Decks, and Picard.

Over time, spectators have pondered if there might be a link between the characters Q and Trelane. Mark De Lancie himself has hinted at this before, stating: “Trelane’s personality bears many similarities to Q.

For the very first time, a clear link has been established between these two characters within the Star Trek universe’s established lore.

As for what else Strange New Worlds will hold as it beams up for season 3? Only time will tell.
