Pluribus Season 2 Release Tradition Confirmed By Creator Vince Gilligan

Be warned: This article reveals key plot points from the season 1 finale of Pluribus. Creator Vince Gilligan shares news about his latest show and hints at a possible release date for season 2.

I was a little worried by what Vince Gilligan said, especially as a fan hoping for a break between projects. But then he unveiled Pluribus at the end of 2025, and wow! It’s a really ambitious sci-fi show about an alien signal that transforms everyone on Earth into a single, peaceful consciousness. And the best part? Rhea Seehorn, who I absolutely loved in Better Call Saul, plays Carol, one of the few people unaffected, and she’s coming back with a vengeance in season 2! I’m so excited to see what happens next.

During an appearance at Apple TV+’s first press event on Tuesday, creator Vince Gilligan confirmed that season two of the show is in development. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he explained that writing the episodes is a slow process. He said his team is working hard, but they’re further along in the writing process than he’d prefer, given how few episodes are currently planned – similar to the challenges they faced with the first season.

Gilligan said they were grateful for everyone’s understanding. However, he clarified that the current show won’t return annually like ‘The Pitt’ did. He expressed a wish it could, as he loved the old-fashioned consistency of shows like ‘The X-Files,’ which returned each year around the same time. While they plan to return in the same month, the exact year is still uncertain.

Gilligan thinks Pluribus might be released later this year, but a new season arriving in December 2026 is probably not going to happen. We might see it on Apple TV in late 2027 or 2028 – long waits like this are becoming typical with streaming shows. Interestingly, The Pitt stood out by releasing new seasons in both January 2025 and 2026, continuing through April.

Wow, the first season of Pluribus just ended with a huge cliffhanger! I was really rooting for Carol, and it felt like she was finally getting to a place where she thought she could live alongside The Others, as long as they respected her boundaries. But then, Zosia revealed something terrifying – they’ve found a way around her protections! They’re actually trying to weaponize the virus against her, using the eggs she had frozen before everything changed with ‘The Joining.’ It’s a really unsettling thought, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Carol acts on a plan she started earlier, having a bomb delivered to her home where she meets with Manousos. Together, they intend to “save the world.” Because of this, a large audience will be eager to watch Pluribus when it returns, no matter how long the wait.

Let me tell you, Vince Gilligan has consistently delivered incredible television. Most know him as the mastermind behind Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul – both shows routinely appear on ‘all-time best’ lists, and for good reason. He actually started with The X-Files, but Pluribus represents a fascinating return to science fiction for him. And the best part? Critics are loving it just as much. It’s a major shift in genre, but Gilligan hasn’t missed a beat.

I’m absolutely thrilled with how well Pluribus has been received! It’s currently sitting at a fantastic 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it stayed at the very top of the streaming charts for weeks after it came out. But the best part? Rhea Seehorn totally deserved the Critics’ Choice and Golden Globe awards she won for her performance! It’s amazing to see Pluribus being recognized alongside shows like Severance and The White Lotus as one of the best drama series out there.

All episodes of Pluribus are available to stream on Apple TV.
