Mark Gatiss’s fresh detective drama titled “Bookish” made its premiere on U&Alibi last night, sparking curiosity among many viewers who eagerly waited to catch a glimpse of it.
The reason is that the dual-episode premiere, broadcast starting at 8pm on Wednesday, 16th July, significantly surpassed the usual viewership in both time slots.
Based on Broadcast’s report, the initial episode attracted approximately 270,000 viewers, which represented a substantial 2.5% share of the viewership during that specific time frame. This figure surpassed the expected benchmark of 43,000 viewers (or 0.3%) by a significant margin.
In the second episode, a large portion of viewers continued to watch, amounting to approximately 202,000 (or 2%) of the audience. This figure surpassed the typical 0.3% average for the time slot by a significant margin.

In August 2022, Bookish didn’t quite hit the viewership numbers of Nicola Walker’s Annika, which attracted 410,000 viewers (2.5% of the audience); nonetheless, it had a robust debut, given that the series was already accessible in its entirety on platforms like Sky and Virgin.
It’s evident that UKTV recognized the potential success of the series well ahead of its premiere, as they already renewed it for a second season a few months back and plan to resume filming during the summer.
Alongside Gatiss, both creator and lead actor, we can expect to see the main cast return as well. This group includes Polly Walker, Elliot Levey, Connor Finch, Blake Harrison, and Buket Kömür.
This story focuses on the character of Gabriel Book, played by Gatiss, a proprietor of a second-hand bookstore in London during 1946. In addition to his literary pursuits, he assists the local authorities in resolving mysteries and crimes.
