Okay, let’s talk about the big reveal in season four of The Lincoln Lawyer – spoiler alert, obviously! It took all season, but we finally found out who Cobie Smulders’ character is and, more importantly, how she’s connected to Mickey Haller. Smulders was one of several new faces this season, alongside Constance Zimmer, Sasha Alexander, and even Kyle Richards, and the show kept us guessing about her role right up until the very end.
Season four of The Lincoln Lawyer adapts Michael Connelly’s novel, The Law of Innocence. The story centers on Mickey Haller, played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, as he defends himself against a murder charge. While his team – Lorna, Cisco, and Izzy – work to prove his innocence, Mickey receives a significant boost when his former wife, Maggie, joins his legal defense.
At the end of The Lincoln Lawyer season 4, Mickey is cleared of the murder charges related to Sam Scales. He and his team discover Sam was involved in a large biofuel fraud that threatened a significant FBI investigation. While the FBI helps arrange a deal with the District Attorney to resolve Mickey’s legal issues, he’s still facing potential danger, and Cobie Smulders’ character appears to be involved in protecting him.
Cobie Smulders Plays Mickey’s Sister In The Lincoln Lawyer

The fourth season of The Lincoln Lawyer ends with Mickey finally free. As prosecutor Dana Berg announces he’s been cleared in Sam’s death, Mickey stops at a grocery store and notices a woman staring at him while he shops.
Now that Mickey has become well-known due to his high-profile murder trial, he probably thinks the woman recognizes him from all the news coverage. The woman, played by Cobie Smulders, is actually Mickey Haller’s sister, as revealed in the final scene of season 4 of The Lincoln Lawyer.
The woman walks with Mickey to the parking lot, and just as she’s about to tell him who she is, she yells for him to get down. Immediately after, gunshots are fired at them, but FBI Agent Dawn Ruth (played by Alexander) and her team quickly eliminate the attackers. Mickey discovers the Armenian mob, linked to Alex Gazarian and the biofuel fraud, has been tracking him, but his sister arrives just in time to rescue him after their brief encounter.
Does Mickey’s Sister Appear In Michael Connelly’s Lincoln Lawyer Books?
Cobie Smulders appears as Mickey Haller’s sister in The Lincoln Lawyer, but details about her character are scarce. The show hasn’t even given her a name yet! Fans might find some hints in Michael Connelly’s novels, which the series is based on. In the books, Mickey has several siblings – three half-sisters and a half-brother who is actually Harry Bosch.
Because Amazon owns the rights to the Bosch character for its own shows, The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix can’t include him. To create connections without directly using Bosch, the series is adapting a detail from the books – the idea that Mickey Haller has half-siblings – and introducing him a sister.
Will Mickey’s Sister Be The Bosch Replacement In The Lincoln Lawyer Season 5?
A big storyline in season 5 of The Lincoln Lawyer will be the introduction of Mickey Haller’s sister. Following the pattern of the books and the Bosch series, she’s expected to be his half-sister, sharing the same father. Her character will also help fill the emotional space left by the absence of Harry Bosch in the show.
Since season five of The Lincoln Lawyer will be based on Resurrection Walk, which involves Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch working together on a murder, Becki could potentially fill some of Bosch’s role in the next case. The book’s plot allows for Smulders’ character to use her strong intuition in a similar way to how Bosch would contribute.
Ted Humphrey, a showrunner for The Lincoln Lawyer, explained that both that series and the Bosch universe have introduced new characters to fill roles previously held by others they can no longer use. While Cobie Smulders’ character isn’t a direct replacement for a Bosch character, she’ll create a similar feel. This addition would not only give The Lincoln Lawyer a compelling new character with ties to Mickey Haller, but also help the show navigate the fact that characters from Bosch aren’t available.
