Following his portrayal of Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe, Jason Momoa has officially joined the DC Universe, set to play Lobo in the upcoming TV series “Supergirl” this coming summer. This role, which Momoa has eagerly anticipated, now offers fans a sneak peek at his unique interpretation. On Instagram, Momoa reacted fittingly to James Gunn’s unveiling of the first “Supergirl” movie poster by employing one of Lobo’s favorite phrases. In response to Gunn’s post showcasing the poster, Momoa adopted the persona of Lobo.
Momoa posted ‘Be aware, buddy’, followed by several rock emojis. This statement references the tagline for Supergirl, which is a spin on Superman’s famous line ‘Look up’. Here’s a snapshot of Momoa’s response, shared by Reddit user yoj-DC on the platform.

In April, Momoa concluded filming his parts as Lobo, approximately a month before the entirety of Supergirl was wrapped up. Details about the movie’s plot are being tightly guarded, but Momoa has suggested that his role is relatively minor. However, he’s excited about Lobo making it to the big screen and frequently talks up what will be an authentic representation based on the comics. In a spring interview, Momoa mentioned that “bastich” and “fraggin'” are the unique expletives he’s been focusing on mastering for his portrayal of Lobo.
Even though the movie “Supergirl” doesn’t release until June 2026, Gunn revealed the teaser poster this week, possibly due to leaks after Kara Zor-El’s brief appearance in “Superman”. Fans might have to wait a while for more official looks at the film. Unlike at San Diego Comic-Con next week where DC Studios won’t promote “Supergirl”, they will instead focus on Season 2 of “Peacemaker” which debuts in August. It’s possible that “Supergirl” may be presented at a later event this year.
It’s thrilling to see Jason Momoa finally take on the role of Lobo, a character he’s long been associated with among fans. Fortunately, Momoa’s previous work with DC Universe wasn’t an obstacle in joining “Supergirl,” as James Gunn mentioned it was always part of the plan to incorporate him into the DCU. Momoa is deeply invested in Lobo, and this passion should shine through on screen. While being a fan isn’t necessary to star in a comic book adaptation, it certainly helps here, given Momoa’s dedication to making his portrayal of Lobo stand out. His captivating screen presence in movies like “Aquaman” and “Dune” suggests he’ll be an excellent choice for the role.
Looking forward to seeing how Lobo interacts with Kara in the TV series Supergirl. Although the storyline is partly inspired by Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic, Lobo is not part of the original work. His addition to the movie presents an interesting deviation from the source material, which carries some risk, but it could prove rewarding given that Momoa has already demonstrated his knack for portraying Lobo authentically.
