Science fiction TV is thriving in the 21st century, even if it feels different from the 1980s. While popular series like Doctor Who and Star Trek may not be at their peak, according to many fans, new and original shows are making a big splash. Just last year, we saw compelling series like Apple’s Murderbot and Pluribus, and Hulu’s Paradise, along with the well-received Alien: Earth. What’s really exciting is the sheer variety of stories being told.
As a big sci-fi fan, I’ve really enjoyed Black Mirror since it first came out, especially some of those incredible episodes. It’s cool to see the show expanding beyond the screen – like a lot of other modern sci-fi series, it’s getting a comic book adaptation! We already saw the “USS Callister” comic launch on Kickstarter, and now Twisted Comics is bringing “San Junipero” to life in comic form on February 24th. The best part? It’s already fully funded and almost finished, which is fantastic news for fans like me!
San Junipero Will Be a Celebration of a Sci-Fi Masterpiece

As a huge fan, I was so thrilled when Netflix picked up Black Mirror. It really opened the show up to a much wider audience, and honestly, the increased budget meant each episode looked and felt amazing. When Season 3 dropped in October 2016, “San Junipero” immediately stood out. It was such a clever idea, but also surprisingly heartwarming – a beautiful love story. Apparently, the creator, Charlie Brooker, originally intended it to be much darker, but thankfully, the story took him in a more hopeful direction, and I think that made it even better.
This story is compelling and layered, with hidden complexities that unfold gradually. Now, Twisted Comics is offering fans a closer look with their adaptation. Neil Gibson, the writer and editor, calls this installment one of his favorites, praising it as thoughtful, beautiful, and surprisingly optimistic – a refreshing change from many stories in the Black Mirror world. He also assures fans that this comic, which closely follows the original, will be filled with hidden details and fun easter eggs to discover.
