On Thursday, FX and Hulu unveiled a fresh trailer for the series Alien: Earth. The sneak peek suggests that our planet may face perils beyond just the xenomorphs in this show. Although it’s already known that the story revolves around a spaceship landing on Earth, it appears there’s a lot more on board than initially anticipated. The trailer features voice-over commentary by Morrow (played by Babou Ceesay), who clarifies, “This ship gathered specimens. Five new lifeforms from distant galaxies. Creatures.” Simultaneously, the trailer displays brief glimpses of extraterrestrial beings, yet they might be variations of the “ovamorph” eggs we’ve encountered in previous series installments. It remains unclear if these “creatures” are all xenomorphs or not, but it seems that when Alien: Earth premieres on August 12th, we can expect some innovative creature designs.
On Thursday, the trailer unveiled chilling scenes of chaos and wreckage from the crashed spaceship, hinting at attacks by facehuggers on the human crew. While fans were prepared for such violent imagery, Morrow’s ominous warnings about a new danger caught them off guard. His comments suggest that there might have been other extraterrestrial beings aboard the ship, and if they exist, they could be as terrifying as the xenomorph itself.
The trailer appears to feature a detailed shot of what seems to be either a goat or a sheep, given the earthbound setting of the series. However, since it’s an earthly environment, it’s more likely this creature is native to our planet, not an alien disguised as one through coincidence. Additionally, there’s a scene where something descends through a ceiling hatch that somewhat resembles an overturned ovomorph. As the xenomorph can assimilate genes from its hosts, it’s plausible this is a novel phase of the xenomorph life cycle we haven’t encountered before. Yet, it could also be one of the new monstrous entities that Morrow has cautioned us about.
It’s quite logical for producers to save the unveiling of any fresh creature designs for the show’s premiere, as maintaining suspense is crucial in a series with a weekly format, much like how the Alien franchise relies on it. Additionally, considering that all the alien lifeforms aboard this spaceship might have encountered xenomorphs prior to its crash, we could be in for five distinct variations of the familiar monster.
Without a doubt, this will undeniably become an epic creature feature in the annals of time. The debut of Alien: Earth unfolds across a two-episode premiere on FX and Hulu, starting Tuesday, August 12th. For those who haven’t seen it yet, previous Alien series are currently available for streaming on Hulu.
