The popular Jujutsu Kaisen manga by Gege Akutami ended in September 2024, but the story continued! Following a four-part epilogue released in December 2024, Akutami launched a sequel manga called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo last September. The sequel quickly gained attention online due to a surprising time jump and the introduction of science fiction elements, including an alien race called the Simurians. While the story mainly focuses on new characters, it also reveals what happened to the original characters, including the deaths of Yuta Okkotsu, Maki Zenin, and Hana Kurusu.
The story confirms that several characters, including Nobara Kugisaki, Ui Ui, and Aoi Todo, survive for many years after the Culling Game. However, a particularly sad discovery is that Yuji Itadori can’t age. He’s no longer fully human or a curse, and can’t live a normal life with those he cares about. Following Hana Kurusu’s death, Yuji cut off all contact with his friends and disappeared. Despite the Jujutsu sorcerers’ best efforts, they couldn’t find him or ask for his assistance. Yuji eventually reappears during a battle, but he has a completely different agenda now.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Reveals Yuji Isn’t Taking Any Sides in The Battle

Yuji intended to stay hidden and carefully subdued a few Simurians and Sorcerers without seriously harming them. Rather than taking sides in the conflict, he planned to resolve things afterward. He was even willing to let Yuta’s descendants lose their fights, confident he could fix the situation later. Gojo had once hoped for a future where the Jujutsu world could continue even without him, but that future never came to pass.
The world of curses remains harsh and unforgiving, even long after Ryomen Sukuna and Kenjaku were defeated. Sorcerers are becoming less powerful with each new generation, and the Jujutsu world continues to force children into dangerous fights, stealing their childhoods. Yuji, feeling detached, began destroying cursed spirits on his own. Though he now stands as the strongest, like Gojo before him, their journeys to reach that point were vastly different.
Yuji and Gojo Faced Unbearable Burden Despite Choosing Different Paths

Growing up, Gojo felt isolated by his immense power, wishing he could share the responsibility with Suguru Geto. Instead of using force, he believed in fixing the flawed jujutsu world through education, hoping to raise a new generation of sorcerers who could reform the established clans and society. Despite finding his methods arrogant, those in charge depended on Gojo’s strength to handle every major threat. A clear example of this was during the Shibuya Incident, where Gojo was solely tasked with defeating the villains while other sorcerers waited for his signal.
Although Gojo was far more powerful than all the villains, including Kenjaku, he was still deceived. A brief lapse in concentration led to him being trapped in the Prison Realm, which quickly worsened the events in Shibuya. The battle demonstrated that the Jujutsu world relies heavily on Gojo and other top-level sorcerers to handle serious threats. Meanwhile, Yuji, after years of isolation and suffering from losing his humanity, is choosing a different path than Gojo.
Yuji wants to respect his teacher’s wishes, but he’s hesitant to become deeply involved with the world of sorcery, preferring to clean up problems after battles rather than fight in them. Considering his encounter with Iori Okkotsu and Iori’s unexpected appearance, it’s clear Yuji has a significant plan that differs from Gojo’s. Yuji’s power seems to have reached, or even exceeded, Gojo’s legendary level. However, their approaches to being sorcerers are vastly different. Although Yuji’s goals diverge from Gojo’s, this could ultimately be a good thing.
