Untamed Finale: Shocking Truth Behind Lucy Cook’s Mysterious Death Revealed!

Warning: Contains full spoilers for Untamed.

In a fresh Netflix series called “Untamed,” renowned Australian actor Sam Neill has exchanged the thrills of Jurassic Park for the challenges of Yosemite National Park. Despite the absence of dinosaurs, there’s still plenty of peril to be found in this new environment.

However, the narrative primarily revolves around Kyle Turner, portrayed by Eric Bana, who is a special agent working under Neil’s character, Paul Souter. Together, they delve into the mysterious circumstances surrounding the demise of a young woman.

Accompanied by Lily Santiago’s latest park ranger, Naya Vasquez, the threesome face one surprise after another in this case, culminating in a dramatic climax in the last episode.

As a film enthusiast, I’ve been intrigued by the enigma that is Lucy Cook. The wilderness of Yosemite National Park seems to hold a secret about her, a secret that I can’t wait to unravel. And these brave park rangers, they seem to be right in the thick of it all. So, who is Lucy Cook? What transpired out there in the heart of nature? And what role do these courageous guardians play in this intriguing tale?

Continue reading, however, please note that the conversation touches upon the sensitive topic of suicide, a subject matter that might be distressing for certain individuals.

Untamed ending explained: What really happened to Lucy Cook?

According to the final title, every path ultimately ends up here. However, Kyle’s life has become turbulent following a confrontation with Shane Maguire that resulted in his temporary dismissal from his ranger position.

Towards the close of the last episode, Kyle ventured into the park in search of answers, only to be unexpectedly struck by gunfire – and the culprit, as you might have suspected, was none other than Shane, intent on eliminating Turner from the scene altogether.

In my pursuit, evading Shane and his menacing rifle, I find myself wounded by a bullet. I improvise, using mud as makeshift bandages in this desperate bid for survival, with my trusty steed likewise immobilized.

They continued their struggle until dusk, at which point Kyle, drained and near-death, attempted to shoot Shane with his final bullet. However, the firearm was empty, and the sound of an empty barrel alerted Shane to Kyle’s location.

Shane tells Kyle, “There’s nowhere else for you in this park,” as he points his gun, suggesting Kyle should leave and reunite with his child.

Affirmatively, he’s pointing to the tragic loss of Kyle’s son, Caleb, which is quite harsh when you ponder it over. A shot does ring out, but not from Shane. Just as Naya arrives on the scene, she fires a single shot at Shane, protecting Kyle, and then continues shooting him multiple times when he attempts to retaliate against her for intervening.

In the hospital, Kyle regains consciousness and it’s clear he will recover well. Vasquez, who Kyle calls his “lucky charm”, shares with him that a cache of illegal substances, money, and firearms were discovered at Maguire’s residence, strengthening the case against him for the crime.

In a heartwarming exchange, they discussed the charm of being a park ranger and the peacefulness of nature. It appears that Kyle has successfully guided Naya through her transition, having spent many years as a city police officer, who now seems to have found her new purpose in this new role.

As a movie reviewer, I find myself reflecting on a poignant scene where the protagonist, Kyle’s ex-partner Jill Bodwin (played brilliantly by Rosemarie DeWitt), shares an emotionally charged moment with her new love interest. In this intimate exchange, she discloses a heart-wrenching truth about the untimely demise of their shared past – the tragic loss of their son, Caleb.

The revelation unfolds that Caleb’s life was cruelly cut short by an individual named Sean Sanderson. The first person to uncover this devastating fact was none other than our protagonist, Maguire. This heart-stopping confession adds a layer of complexity to the relationships within the movie and propels the narrative forward.

As a cinephile, I must admit that I was taken aback by Sean’s actions towards them. However, Kyle remained optimistic, believing the legal system would rectify this wrong, given the compelling video evidence they had gathered. Jill, on the other hand, harbored no such faith in justice. Instead, she chose to engage Maguire for a double-edged scheme: blackmailing the killer of her child and orchestrating his demise in return.

Instead of hearing her forgettable boyfriend’s thoughts about everything, the show switches to a scene where Jill goes to visit Kyle in the hospital instead.

In that scenario, I might rephrase it like this: “I want you to know I’m okay,” I assure you, even though the previous events may suggest otherwise due to my actions.

When Jill requests the same pledge from Kyle, he brings up Caleb instead, mentioning that he continues to spot him here and there, before eventually granting her the promise she sought. Their final on-screen interaction leaves us wanting more, as their tumultuous dynamic is a key element that fuels this series.

As a curious admirer, I find myself with unanswered questions about Lucy’s life, so I decide to follow up on the final clue I have. Thus, I embark on a journey, heading northward towards Nevada, with the intention of visiting the church where Lucy once attended as a child, in hopes of discovering more details about her past.

This path eventually brings Kyle to Mrs. Gibbs, an elderly woman with dementia, who in the past cared for someone named Lucy – but back then, she was called Grace. The journey subsequently guides Kyle to Faith Gibbs, the matured daughter of the lady, currently employed as a waitress at a bar.

Faith discovered that her father had been operating an illicit foster home system, where he intentionally neglected the children in his care and kept them confined in the basement for most of the day. Among these unfortunate children, Grace stood out to Faith as she cried frequently, more than others, and often spoke about her father’s protection, which never materialized. Ultimately, due to the lack of help, Grace decided to escape on her own.

Faith is uncertain about her father’s current location, but she harbors the hope that he may have passed away and that his demise was painful.

When Kyle is about to depart, Faith suddenly remembers that Grace’s father was a police officer, which makes Kyle ponder. He then contacts someone unidentified and requests a favor that strays from official procedures.

In a short time, we discover Kyle’s thoughts when he encounters his ex-boss and friend in the park, intending to share fresh insights regarding the case with them.

It turned out that Paul was not entirely truthful about Lucy’s DNA results when he first shared them, which is why Kyle decided to double-check and resend them to the lab. His suspicion proved justified.

Absolutely, it turns out Sam Neill was chosen for a reason beyond merely portraying Kyle’s supervisor who occasionally offers encouragement. His character holds a significant role due to the clandestine secret that Paul possesses.

Now, Kyle has realized that Paul is indeed Lucy’s father. He presents an old photograph of Lucy as a child, watching Paul struggle to evade the truth. However, his efforts are in vain.

Paul makes clear that Maggie was unaware of this matter, indicating that revealing it could have devastated their relationship.

Kyle persistently inquires about Paul’s decision to leave Lucy with the Gibbs church when she was a child and his reluctance to assist her when she re-entered the Yosemite region as an adult. As Kyle delves further, Paul gradually confesses minor truths, but he remains evasive until Kyle insists on conducting ballistics tests on his hunting rifles.

“I just told you the biggest secret of my life and you jump to I killed my own child?”

It becomes clear that Paul played a crucial role in Lucy’s death. Although he didn’t deliver the fatal blow, his actions caused such fear within Lucy that she felt compelled to end her life. This is evident as Kyle discovers her body at the edge of the cliff where the series begins.

Kyle communicates to Paul that it’s essential for him to rectify the situation somehow, as Lucy was kin and he failed to safeguard her as he ought. Upon this revelation, Paul becomes flustered, understanding that his actions have been exposed. Consequently, Paul offers Kyle his position back within the park, hoping it would provide some solace – or at least a lingering remembrance – of Caleb.

The unyielding park ranger refuses to entertain it, instead choosing to leave and rectify the situation, all while Paul points his gun at him. A gunshot rings out, but much like with Maguire earlier, the bullet misses Kyle. In a shocking turn of events, Paul shoots himself in the head, and subsequently, his body tumbles into the river below.

After securing a measure of justice, Lucy’s remains are respectfully buried and cremated according to local traditions. Kyle observes as her ashes drift away with the wind, then sets off alone for a private conversation with the spirit of his deceased son, Caleb.

Kyle’s child urges him, saying something along the lines of, “Let’s go,” inviting him to accompany Caleb into a realm that Kyle hasn’t yet decided to enter.

In a poignant display of emotion, Kyle expresses, “Regardless of where I end up or where I travel, you’ll never be far from me.” This statement comes as he embraces his long-lost child, symbolizing a desire for renewal in life. To achieve this fresh start, Kyle feels compelled to relinquish the park and venture forth on a journey towards healing and growth.

As Kyle is about to depart, he pens a note for Vasquez and bequeaths her his horse as well as the toy box that her child had expressed interest in playing with earlier, which once belonged to Caleb.

Leaving forever, Vasquez leads Kyle’s horse into the park, where it’s encompassed by a group of deer and breathtaking mountain vistas. The wilderness holds peril, yet its charm is undeniable as well.

Perhaps Kyle can find some calm in that elsewhere, now that he’s moved onto pastures new.
