Fans have been waiting a long time, but Apple TV is now making a Mistborn movie based on Brandon Sanderson’s popular fantasy series! We’re already imagining who could play the main characters. While Vin and Kelsier will be central to the story, the books are full of interesting supporting characters who are all essential to Kelsier’s plan to take down the Final Empire. Characters like Elend and Sazed will even become more important as the series continues.
Getting the actors right for the upcoming Mistborn adaptation is crucial. Luckily, Brandon Sanderson is involved creatively, so it’s likely fans will be pleased. While using lesser-known actors could be a good choice, here’s my dream cast with established stars.
1) Dafne Keen as Vin

I’ve been seeing Dafne Keen suggested as Vin in a Mistborn adaptation for ages, and honestly, I still think she’d be fantastic. She’s getting to the age where it might not seem like a perfect fit anymore, but I believe she’s still young enough, especially if they aged her up a little for the role. It wouldn’t be a huge stretch – we see actors in their twenties playing teenagers all the time! And it would become even less noticeable as the series progresses into The Well of Ascension and The Hero of Ages, since Vin is becoming a young adult herself during those stories.
Keen would be a great choice to play Vin, and it’s not just about her appearance. She’s successfully taken on similar roles before. Her work on His Dark Materials showed she can bring a leading character from a popular fantasy book to life, and her experience in Marvel films proves she can convincingly play someone who’s been through a lot – plus, she’s clearly capable of handling the action sequences in Mistborn.
2) Sam Claflin as Kelsier

Several actors could play Kelsier in a Mistborn movie, but I think Sam Claflin would be a great fit. He has the right look – messy blond hair and a confident attitude – and his performance as Finnick in The Hunger Games proves he can really nail the character.
Sam Claflin, playing Finnick, perfectly captures the character’s public persona – the charming victor adored by the Capitol. But he also reveals a hidden anger, showing Finnick’s deep dislike for the spectators and the world they represent. Claflin has the charisma to play the role, and crucially, he can also portray the intense rage needed for this antihero, bringing the right balance to the entire cast.
3) Harry Collett as Elend Venture

Elend Venture is described as having messy brown hair, a look Harry Collett, who plays Prince Jacaerys Velaryon in House of the Dragon, can easily capture. However, it’s Collett’s performance as Jacaerys that truly makes him a strong candidate for the role of Elend. He’s already proven he can play a noble character who wants to be a good leader, even though Jace is still young and figuring things out, and is starting to wonder where he fits into his mother’s ambitions.
Harry Collett brilliantly captures Jace’s drive and ambition, while also showing his vulnerability and lack of experience. This balance is exactly what the actor playing Elend needs to achieve. Elend is intelligent and develops into a strong leader, but he learns through mistakes and struggles along the way. Having seen Harry Collett in House of the Dragon, I believe he’s capable of portraying this complex character.
4) Peter Mensah as Sazed

Peter Mensah’s short role in Gladiator 2 shows he still commands attention on screen. This makes him a perfect fit to play Sazed in a Mistborn movie series. He’s already proven his ability to handle action, as seen in Spartacus. That experience is essential for portraying Sazed, who is central to many of the most exciting and action-filled scenes in the first Mistborn era.
Sazed needs to seem wise and commanding, even though he’s a reflective character. He’s the one the crew relies on for guidance and information, so the actor Mensah does a great job of portraying that presence. His performance – both how he acts and how he speaks – perfectly captures Sazed’s personality.
5) Rami Malek as the Lord Ruler

Rami Malek’s work on Mr. Robot demonstrates his talent for playing complex, withdrawn characters – a skill that would be perfect for the flashback scenes in Mistborn, which build up to the reveal of the Lord Ruler. He’s also proven he can narrate effectively, which would be useful for the story’s journal entries.
Given a little styling with hair and makeup, I think Rami Malek could really pull off the role of the Lord Ruler as he appears in The Final Empire. There are a lot of actors who could do it, but once I pictured Malek in the part, I couldn’t imagine anyone else.
6) Robert Pattinson as Marsh

While Robert Pattinson is no longer being considered for the role of Kelsier, I believe his talent for playing dark and intense characters would be a better fit for Kelsier’s brother, Marsh. Marsh experiences a deeply emotional story throughout the first Mistborn series, and an actor who can portray someone like Batman’s Bruce Wayne could easily handle that kind of complex role.
Robert Pattinson has proven he can play a wide range of characters, making him a strong candidate for the role of Marsh. Marsh undergoes a significant change throughout the series, starting with firm convictions similar to his crewmates but ultimately becoming a Steel Inquisitor and distancing himself from their ideals. It’s a complex and demanding role, and Pattinson would likely deliver a fantastic performance. However, it’s uncertain whether he’d be interested in returning to a large-scale fantasy series after his experience with Twilight.
7) Charlie Cox as Dockson

Charlie Cox, known for his role in Daredevil, seems like a long shot for the Mistborn adaptation, as he’s currently quite busy. But it’s fun to imagine! The character of Dockson requires an actor in their 30s or 40s with brown hair and a beard, and Cox’s portrayal of Matt Murdock makes me think he could really nail the role, even though he’s a popular choice and the description fits many actors.
Charlie Cox, known for playing Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, excels at portraying characters with difficult moral choices – people who strive for justice but aren’t afraid to use force or operate outside the law. He also convincingly embodies the clever and calculating side of his characters, which makes him perfectly suited to play the mastermind behind Kelsier’s team.
8) Matt Berry as Breeze

Matt Berry would be ideal as Breeze in the upcoming Mistborn movie, not only because of his appearance, but also because he can capture the character’s personality. Breeze is a likable and funny member of the team thanks to his ability to influence people’s feelings. While he seems more laid-back than the others, he’s actually a very loyal friend hidden beneath a flashy exterior.
Berry is perfectly suited for this role, demonstrated by his performance as Laszlo Cravensworth in What We Do in the Shadows. He effortlessly delivers both hilarious and heartfelt moments, proving he can capture the complexity of the character Breeze.
9) Gwendoline Christie as Hammond

There’s been discussion about potentially reimagining the character Ham as a woman in a Mistborn movie, and even Brandon Sanderson has suggested it. Personally, Gwendoline Christie immediately comes to mind. She’s physically well-suited for the role, and her performance as Brienne of Tarth demonstrates she can convincingly play a battle-hardened soldier.
Her portrayal of Brienne of Tarth is both true to the original character and uniquely her own. This makes me optimistic that she’d do a great job bringing another well-loved character to life on screen.
10) Ciarán Hinds as Clubs

Clubs is the oldest and most cynical member of the core group in Mistborn, and his blunt, practical personality would be a great fit for Ciarán Hinds. The role doesn’t demand the same powerful presence Hinds displayed as characters like Mance Rayder in Game of Thrones or the Dark Wizard in The Rings of Power. But it does require someone direct and a little scary, and Hinds has already shown he can deliver that kind of performance.
It makes perfect sense that Hinds will be in the new Mistborn movie. He’s already appeared in major fantasy series like Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter, so this feels like a natural fit.
11) Mason Thames as Spook

The role of Clubs’ nephew, nicknamed Spook, needs an actor who can convincingly play an awkward teenager. Mason Thames, known for his work in Black Phone, seems like a good fit – he already has the right look, with messy hair and a lean build, to portray Spook.
The main concern with casting Thames is that they might quickly become too big for the part. However, the time jumps in Mistborn could work in their favor, and Lestibourne’s character does evolve significantly throughout the series. It’s definitely something worth considering.
