The Day of the Jackal season 2 finally gets major update as new cast members revealed

The popular Sky thriller, The Day of the Jackal, has announced its first cast member for the upcoming second season.

Pablo Schreiber, known for his roles in ‘Halo’ and ‘Orange Is the New Black,’ and Weruche Opia, who starred in ‘I May Destroy You,’ have been added to the cast of the spy series as main characters, according to Deadline.

Eddie Redmayne is confirmed to return as the mysterious central figure in the story, after a highly successful first season that critics loved in both America and Europe.

Details about the characters Opia and Schreiber will play are currently being kept secret. Opia is known for her critically acclaimed role as Terry in I May Destroy You, which earned her a BAFTA nomination, and Schreiber is famous for playing George ‘Pornstache’ Mendez in Orange Is the New Black, as well as Master Chief in Halo. He’s also appeared in popular shows like The Wire, Weeds, and American Gods.

The Day of the Jackal is a new take on the famous thriller, centering on a professional and mysterious assassin called the Jackal (played by Redmayne). The story follows him as he operates in a dangerous world of secret deals and international conspiracies.

Wow, the first season ended with a real gut punch! I was completely invested in Bianca Pullman, the MI6 agent played by Lashana Lynch, and her relentless chase of the Jackal all over Europe. We’d been building to that showdown for so long, and honestly, it didn’t go at all how I expected – it ended in tragedy, and it definitely left a lot of viewers divided.

In the final scene, Bianca found the assassin’s hideout, but during a dramatic confrontation, she was fatally shot by her enemy. The Jackal managed to escape, setting the stage for season two to delve into the consequences of this shocking event.

The second season of The Day of the Jackal is coming later this year to Sky and Peacock in the US, though a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet.

Ronan Bennett, known for his work on ‘Top Boy’, is leaving his role as head writer for the upcoming episodes to focus on other projects. David Harrower, a playwright and screenwriter whose work includes ‘Lockerbie: A Search for Truth’, will be taking over as head writer.
