She suddenly developed stroke-like symptoms, unable to speak and experiencing drooping on the right side of her face. Although these symptoms eventually passed, she went to the hospital for testing. Doctors discovered she had a small blood clot in her brain, which they identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). Further investigation at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). This hole allowed the blood clot to travel to her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey has since undergone a successful procedure to close the PFO and is now doing well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that temporarily paralyzed part of his face. This forced him to cancel the remaining dates of his Justice World Tour.
In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained the virus affected nerves in his ear and face, causing paralysis on one side. He showed fans he couldn’t blink, smile, or move his nostril on the affected side, and that it was becoming difficult to eat. Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away.

A hospital scan revealed she’d suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a life-threatening stroke caused by a ruptured aneurysm. She immediately underwent surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia, leaving her unable to speak clearly.
Though the aphasia eventually passed and she was discharged after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had grown and required a second surgery. I’ve been a long-time admirer of Shailene Woodley, and I was really moved by what she recently shared about her health struggles. She explained that her early twenties were incredibly difficult. For years, she was dealing with a mysterious illness that caused her to lose hearing, struggle to walk even for short periods, and experience constant stomach pain. It was so frustrating because different doctors couldn’t pinpoint exactly what was wrong. Being someone who appreciates holistic approaches, she decided to combine working with traditional doctors and independent healers, really searching for answers and a sense of comfort. It was a ten-year journey, and she described how the physical discomfort led to a lot of mental and emotional challenges, like fear around food, body dysmorphia, and questioning her own identity. Thankfully, she’s now in a much better place and is happy to share that she’s fully recovered and healthy. It’s inspiring to hear her openness and resilience, and I’m so glad she found a path to wellness.
