Fans of My Hero Academia recently received a surprising update about Izuku Midoriya’s father. The manga concluded in 2024 and the anime followed last year, but creator Kohei Horikoshi left some questions unanswered. One of these was the fate of several Class 1-A students’ parents, particularly Deku’s, as his father has been absent throughout the entire series.
Deku’s father has been a mysterious figure in My Hero Academia. While the manga and anime briefly mentioned his quirk through Deku’s mother, Inko, fans have long wondered about him. Recently, a small scene in My Hero Academia: All’s Justice provided an update, as noted by a fan on X (@shibuyasmash).
My Hero Academia Updates Fans Deku’s Missing Father
I definitely didn’t expect to see Hisashi Midoriya mentioned in 2026! #MHAAJ
Here’s a bit of their conversation:
Midoriya explained that his dad works abroad, so it’s mostly just him and his mom at home.
Aoyama was surprised and asked if he missed his dad.
Midoriya said he does, but understands his dad is working hard for them and really admires him.
Aoyama commented on what a lovely family they have.— 渋谷スマッシュ arigato na (@shibuyasmash) February 6, 2026
A recent conversation in My Hero Academia: All’s Justice revealed that Deku’s father works abroad, explaining why it’s usually just him and his mother. When Yuga Aoyama asked if he misses his father, Deku admitted he does, but understands his father is working hard to support them and deeply respects him. This means Deku’s father has been working overseas throughout the entire My Hero Academia series, though fans are debating whether this new information officially fits into the established storyline.
This marks the first time the series has directly addressed the absence of Deku’s father. While fans didn’t anticipate a large role for him, his complete lack of presence always felt strange, especially as other heroes’ parents appeared later in the story. It was always unsettling that Deku faced constant danger without any sign of his father. Now, the series offers an explanation: he’s been working abroad and was likely unaware of the risks Deku faced.
Is This a Good Excuse for Deku’s Father?

While it makes sense to leave Deku’s father out of the story, it unfortunately creates a negative impression. It’s clear he wasn’t meant to be a significant character, and wasn’t included to strengthen Deku’s relationships with figures like All Might. However, seeing Deku’s mother suffer so much during his battles makes his father seem uncaring, and suggests he may not even be aware of what’s happening.
Throughout the entire war depicted in My Hero Academia, and even in the epilogue which jumps forward several years, Deku’s father is never mentioned or seen. The story does acknowledge Deku’s mother, Inko, but remains completely silent about his father, leading to the conclusion that he abandoned his family and didn’t return home – which is disappointing for fans.
