Shaun Evans stars in the new ITV thriller, Betrayal, as John, an MI5 agent facing a double crisis: he’s being investigated by his colleagues at work, and his marriage is falling apart.
On top of everything else, John starts to believe the UK is about to be attacked by a radical group within the Iranian government.
We aimed to create a focused four-episode series that felt impactful and didn’t waste time. We wanted a strong, concise story. If audiences enjoy it and want more, we’re open to discussing potential follow-ups and whether there’s enough material for additional episodes, according to Evans.

While it seems possible the show could come back, Chris Evans explained that ‘Betrayal’ wasn’t created with the intention of becoming a continuing series.
He explained it wasn’t about creating a system designed for endless, repetitive effort. He believes that approach is doomed to fail and feels unnecessarily pessimistic.
Romola Garai portrays John’s wife, Claire, in the series. Meanwhile, Zahra Ahmadi plays Mehreen Askari-Evans, an intelligence officer who temporarily fills John’s responsibilities during an investigation.
