An Underrated 2024 Sci-Fi Thriller Just Started Streaming on Paramount+

For science fiction enthusiasts, Paramount+ is a top-tier streaming service. Since it launched, it’s built up a large collection of sci-fi content, featuring popular TV shows like The Twilight Zone and various Star Trek series, as well as well-loved films such as Interstellar and War of the Worlds. Digging through the platform reveals some lesser-known titles too, including a fantastic 2024 sci-fi movie that recently became available on Paramount+.

Looking for a hidden sci-fi gem? Consider a Paramount+ subscription this February. They recently added the compelling thriller The Silent Planet, a movie you might have missed. Set in the distant future, the film depicts a partially occupied Earth where dangerous criminals are exiled to remote planets. The story follows Theodore, serving a life sentence alone on a desolate planet, who is forced to face his past when a new prisoner arrives.

The Silent Planet Is a Dreamy, Slow-Burn Experience

Don’t expect sweeping landscapes or special effects from The Silent Planet. This movie is a focused, character-driven story about two people, played by Elias Koteas and Briana Middleton, struggling with memory and paranoia. If you enjoy films like Solaris or The Lighthouse, you’ll likely appreciate this. It’s a thought-provoking film that asks you to question what’s real, and it deliberately creates a sense of confusion and disconnection, mirroring the characters’ own feelings of isolation and distrust. Ultimately, it’s a deeply personal and intimate exploration of guilt, memory, and what it means to be human.

Despite being a strong science fiction film, The Silent Planet remains surprisingly unknown. It hasn’t received enough reviews to earn a score on Rotten Tomatoes, but those that exist are all positive. Viewers and critics appreciate its thoughtful and atmospheric approach, which prioritizes psychological depth over typical action. Emilie Black of Cinema Crazed calls it “a solid science fiction character piece that deserves to be seen,” and praises the acting and the film’s eerie, isolated atmosphere, which were created without relying on extensive computer-generated imagery.

What’s New on Paramount+?

Paramount+ has added a bunch of new movies and shows, including some exciting sci-fi titles, after its February 1st releases. Sci-fi fans can now stream Cloverfield, while those looking for other genres can enjoy films like Almost Famous, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Save the Last Dance, The Godfather films, Us, and many more.
