Olympics 2026: Britney Spears, Kevin Federline Reference Explained

Seriously, I’m still reeling! Who could have ever predicted that Britney and Kevin would be part of the 2026 Olympics? It’s just… mind-blowing! I mean, Britney and Kevin at the Olympics? I need to sit down!

Interestingly, the early 2000s marriage of the singer of “…Baby One More Time” and a certain DJ has had a surprising impact – it’s become a term used in freestyle skiing, known as the “K-Fed.”

During the February 9th broadcast, an Olympics commentator explained the nickname for a specific snowboarding trick: a frontside switch-up followed by a backside 270 off the rail. It’s called a “K-Fed” because the trick became popular around the time Britney Spears and Kevin Federline were frequently in the news, and the name started as a joke.

There’s another, less common trick called “The Britney” (or “The Brittney”). It’s done on rails like the “K-Fed,” but the skier moves in the opposite direction.

Skiers haven’t just been inspired by Britney Spears’ marriage; they’ve also created moves named after Ellen DeGeneres and Ray Charles.

The Olympics 2026 Opening Ceremony on February 6th featured a special performance by Mariah Carey at the San Siro Stadium. She sang both the Italian classic “Volare” and her hit song “Nothing Is Impossible.”

The Grammy-winning singer wowed the crowd in a sparkling white sequined dress. She even performed her signature high note to honor the 3,500 athletes participating in the winter games, which continue until February 22nd.

The stands were filled with celebrities watching the historic event. Michelle Yeoh, star of Everything Everywhere All At Once, was there with her husband, Jean Todt. Sabrina Impacciatore, from The White Lotus, who is Italian, performed a dance after the athletes were introduced.

Snoop Dogg and Shaun White were also at the event. White, a former Olympian, shared insights from his experience competing in the 2006 Turin, Italy games.

Oh my gosh, when I heard Italy was hosting the Olympics again, I nearly lost it! Seriously, I had the best time when they hosted before, and I just knew this one would be just as amazing, if not more so. Seeing them back after 20 years… it’s honestly unbelievable. It just brought everything full circle, you know? I’m so incredibly happy to be witnessing it!
