Jay McGuiness, from the band The Wanted, has hinted again that a special All Stars version of Strictly Come Dancing might be happening, saying he would be very keen to take part.
The concept originally appeared during last year’s Strictly Come Dancing special in Blackpool, where McGuiness rejoined former stars Ashley Roberts, Danny Mac, and Layton Williams for a group performance.
“But those sort of things take a lot of bravery, I think, but I would love to do it.”
You know, I was just thinking about a potential All Stars season, and it seems like they’d probably lean towards casting players who haven’t won before. That might mean I’m not a contender, honestly. But if they decided to do a season of all winners? Forget about it, I’d be first in line to compete!

In 2015, Jay McGuiness and his partner Aliona Vilani won the dance competition after performing a memorable jive inspired by the movie Pulp Fiction.
Reflecting on his experience with the show, the singer admitted he still feels a sense of longing. He recalled returning the year after his win with his partner, Aliona, to perform at the season launch, and being envious of the crew, makeup artists, and hair stylists. Seeing them all preparing for a new season made him realize his time on the show was over, and he missed being a part of it.
Honestly, it’s like everything just stops when it’s not your turn, and then you’re completely caught up in watching others. But being there, even for something like the final shoot which is a really long day, is just incredible. I was practically vibrating with excitement the whole time!
He doesn’t believe he’d win again. “Absolutely not!” he said with a laugh. “I’ve had my turn. People in Britain don’t usually like seeing someone succeed repeatedly, do they? I’d rather just enjoy the experience and retire with dignity.”
Ever since finishing up on Strictly Come Dancing, I’ve been following Jay McGuiness’s career, and it’s been amazing to see him transition into musical theatre! He’s already done some fantastic shows – I was so excited to hear he was in the UK premiere of ‘Big the Musical’ and then ‘ &Juliet’ – and now he’s taking on a completely new role in a show called ‘Sea Witch’. I’m really looking forward to seeing what he does with it!

The singer explains that his win on the show quickly led to new opportunities. Just a month after winning with Aliona, he had his first meeting with the team who would cast him in ‘Big the Musical,’ his West End debut. He describes it as a seamless transition into a new career he thoroughly enjoyed.
Even now, people still recognize me and tell me how much my time on Strictly Come Dancing impacted them. It’s strange because before that, I was just a relatively unknown member of a boy band, and then suddenly I was ‘that guy who won Strictly.’ It’s something people mention to me everywhere – in restaurants, hotels, parks, even pubs – and it’s really touching to hear.

He also highlighted how much of an impact Strictly Come Dancing has had on people’s careers. For example, in the new show Sea Witch (a prequel to The Little Mermaid), he’s working with Michelle Visage, who competed on Strictly, and Natalie Paris, a vocalist from the show for many years. As he put it, Strictly has been a significant part of their professional paths.
To whoever is organizing the All Stars series, I’m definitely interested in participating! Also, Sea Witch will be performing two concerts at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on March 1st.
