Lindsey Vonn is addressing her well-wishers.
Following her crash in the women’s downhill final at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina, Italy, on February 8th, the skier took to social media to share her thanks.
Journalist Dan Walker praised Lindsay’s spirit as “the heart of sportsmanship” after she competed in Italy at age 41 despite a torn ACL. Lindsay responded with a simple “Thank you Dan” and a prayer hands emoji.
Lindsey responded to Dan’s supportive message after suffering a broken leg in a ski accident. Dan, an Olympian, had previously announced she would compete despite tearing her ACL – her first competition after a five-year break – and Lindsey was impressed by her bravery.
He posted on X on February 9th that it wasn’t just about winning, but about proving people wrong. He described it as the raw essence of sport – uncomfortable, even painful, and prioritizing taking chances over playing it safe.
He went on to explain that Vonn was aware she might not win, and that it could be painful. She understood the danger, but she accepted it. For her, not skiing down the mountain would have meant giving in to the challenges that make it hard to face each day.
And winning at the Olympics doesn’t always mean going home with gold.
You know, as someone who’s followed sports and wellness for years, I’ve realized the truly amazing moments aren’t always about winning a medal. It’s the bravery that really sticks with me. It’s seeing an athlete line up, fully aware of the risks, knowing things could go wrong, and still giving it everything they’ve got. That’s where the real inspiration lies – in the courage to try, even when the outcome is uncertain.

He added, “I hope her body heals quickly and she knows she will always be a winner.”
Following a serious accident on the course, the golfer was airlifted to Ca Foncello hospital in Treviso, Italy. The hospital reported to Reuters that she had surgery that afternoon to stabilize a fracture in her left leg.
After Lindsey’s crash – which happened just seconds after her arm got caught on a gate at the start of the race – her sister, Karin Kildow, explained that Lindsey had dedicated herself completely to training for the 2026 Olympics.
“It was the last thing anyone wanted to happen,” Karin said to NBC after the incident. “Your immediate thought is just hoping she’s alright, and it was a really frightening moment. Seeing the stretchers come out is never a good indication.”
She added, “She dared greatly, and she put it all out there.”
